YES.....another USPS rant!!!!!! WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!??

I live in the most rural county East of the Mississippi. I have older hobby cars and I am building a 1923 Ford T C Cab. I have to order almost 100% of parts I need for my vehicles, add the model kit stuff I order and that's a number of packages. I had a vital part on order from Speedway. It was to be delivered today and would enable me to install all the front suspension on my 23 T over this 3 day weekend. I look up tracking number this morning and my package that yesterday was miles from my house and on time was re-routed to Six Mile SC.......pretty far from my house in WV. Looking back over  my orders the past year about 40% of them are routed out of Charleston WV to other states rather than the few miles to me. HOW on earth can these packages with automated addresses get routed to wrong states 40% of the time. It has to be some sick person intentionally throwing boxes into the wrong places......not even the USPS can mis-route this many on accident.  My job as a bank analyst had a ZERO tolerance for errors. I wish USPS had something like that......or find these people that do this for sport.

OK ...old man rant over/ thx

I depend on timely parts delivery for my business, and have constant issues with the PO here and out-of-state mis-routing just like you do.

It's only going to get worse as competence becomes less and less a hiring criterion, and gross incompetence isn't a reason for termination.

Speaking of which, I was behind a local PO truck yesterday on the way to the shop. I've rarely seen a vehicle under less apparent control, and if the driver wasn't drunk or otherwise impaired, he/she/they/it should be hospitalized.

Right.....while I do not have a business now......my son and I have talked about a car based biz. We will have to look at the delay that seems the norm as to weather we do anything or not. thx

Well, I almost always get my stuff eventually, but anything time-critical, forget it.

Stuff I ship is the same. Two packages of parts shipped "Priority" Sat. AM, delivery at destinations estimated for Monday PM, stuff finally arrived Thursday PM, and in the meantime was completely off the "tracking" radar.

So why the hello did I pay for "Priority"?

it happens to me from time to time. Our mail has to go thr Memphis now no matter if it goes across town. Mail did get sorted in Jackson 30 miles away but it was closed now Memphis. Many of the people that worked for USPS retired and was forced to retire..

imagine the same government employees at the Post Office, running government hospitals and you get a glimpse of what Socialism is like.

I have been an ebay seller for more than 20 years and the last three years things have deteriorated exponentially at the post office. Close to 10% of my shipments never make it to the customers, they just disappear or get stolen.

There are few things more useless than an employee who believes they cannot be fired.

Getting close to lock time here. Not sure where you live.....but friends in Canada  often wait  months to a year for vital care. I'd say your VOP depends on your needs. Thx

The biggest problem with the post office is the management. They make a decision and are never held accountable. In their defense they are forced by elected officials to do stupid things. Now all that being said I do not understand how or why every letter I send with the same zip code as my house has to go to Detroit area (Allen Park I believe) to be sorted. Rarely have trouble with letters going over the state line to Toledo. Strangely Toledo's mail is also sorted in Detroit area.

Around here many of the rural delivery personal are not regular employees any longer, and they want you to supply the car. The best part is the management cannot figure out why their employees give a darn is busted.

Yo, Casey, this has*NOTHING* to do with socialism.  Look up the definition.  You are just using buzzwords which seem to be convenient for you at the moment.   Even the entire U.S. government itself is nowhere close to being socialist. I could expand on who runs our government, but that would get me banned from the forum.

Also, the USPS is not actually run by U.S. government.   What you seeing here could be related to badly designed routing algorithms (since everything is done by computers), and of course by the incompetence of the employees (which is rampant in today's world, all around us, regardless of the political  association, not just at the post office).  Incompetent people are everywhere, all over the world, regardless of which country or political regime they reside in.

This is a major part of the problem. Bad management that mandate cost savings that end up costing more in the long run.

But wait...don't you know that in today's much more gooder world anyone with a shiny new degree in the History of Competitive Tiddlywinks or something equally useful can perform well as a manager in ANY field, just as long as they're the right gender or ethnicity to fill the quotas?

Wake up, man. The world has changed. Time to get on board.  ;)

To help explain the sorting problem being sent to another city and back again....... Several years ago they closed a sorting station in a major city here so that all mail goes about 50 miles up the freeway to Portland, gets sorted and then ships out. Doesn't matter if you're sending a letter across town, it takes the scenic route and then back again.

I'm sure they will tell you it's more efficient that way.

Yep.....when I'd send Dad a B'day card , he lived on the same road as I do 11 miles away, the card would be postmarked in a city next state over......LOGISTICS!!!!

I don't believe some folks on this forum know who DeJoy is or who appointed him to his position as head of the USPS. Look it up. The entire organization is headed for the dumpster due to the changes he has implemented. He certainly doesn't have a socialist agenda. Quite the opposite.

Ya know...idiocy isn't limited to just one side of the political aisle, and there's no shortage of it on either side,

To imply otherwise...

This direction has been decided for a decade or three. Nothing new at all.

What I find funny is the hours they keep and they have been claiming they want more business. I am the last house on the left on a dead-end street. My drive is the turnaround for all of the delivery companies.  If the powers that be really wanted to stay in business they would have better hours.

Like everyone else I have had issues with FEDEX. I thought someone here might enjoy what I saw while shopping the other day. This guy was pushing his cart in the other direction at COSTCO and I noticed the shirt he was wearing. His shirt looked much like the ones you would see some of the FEDEX drivers wearing, except on the front instead of saying FEDEX it said FEDUP. I thought it was sort of funny anyway.

I now live in a small farm town that still has a "local mail" slot. They were told to remove it yars ago but the Post Master here refused to do it.

Where we did live before if I mailed a letter across the street it had to go 70 miles south get sorted and sent back because in the 1990's someone decided that we didn't need a mail sort in our central post office so now instead it goes to a private owned sort center.

Every holiday season they hire a bunch of people to sort and load trucks. My son applied and went there and only stayed a week because it was a bunch of people that had no real incentive to work and werfe openly stealing cards and opening packages! When he brought it to the attention of management he was told mind his own business!

I did ask the guy that drops mail here every day (contract hauler) about packages being mis-routed and all he said is "they call it logistics" and laughed!
