If there is any one person to blame for my model car building addiction, it would have to be my Dad.  He got me started in the early 60's while I was still in my single digits.  My Mom just referred to them as "Dust Collectors".  This Mercedes I built for him as a gift on his 85th birthday and it has just come back to me.  He was born in Germany in 1929 and my Mother in 1930.  They are both in their early 90's now and in 'assisted living', so space is at a premium and he doesn't want to see it damaged.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Well done, is that kit difficult in fit etc.

The best I can remember, there was quite a bit of test fitting first.  The body parts were the toughest part.  I used a dark red Rustoleum spray paint, and let it cure for about 2 weeks before handling. Polished everything out with toothpaste and s-l-o-w-l-y assembled the body parts with 2-part clear epoxy allowing lots of time between steps.

Such a beautiful model, and such a great sentiment behind it. My dad just passed a few months ago, and he loved the Panther Westwinds J72 so much he took one of their magazine ads in the 1970's and framed it for his office. Sometime in the 90's, I converted a Bburago Jaguar SS100 for him, and painted it the tuxedo black exterior and vibrant red leather interior like the ad. I am just now getting this model back, and to me it is worth its weight in gold.

Really enjoy the pictures of a great model, but love the story even more!  I built a '51 Chevy for my dad back in 2019. Unfortunately lost him in 2021. Miss him dearly...

Joe, I remember seeing your beautiful model about a year ago. Stumbled on it again today while searching for SSK photos. You really did an exceptional job on this one. Love it! Great photos too. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Joe,

I'd like to ask how you managed to make the dashboard so great, meaning the chrome rings around meters etc? Thanks!

Beautiful car and you definitely did it justice. I didn't even know that Lindberg had such a model. Every day something new to learn on here.
