DRIPTROIT 71 Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 This is an A.IT.M. cab on an AMT Louisville chassis. It has 8v-71 Detroit power, Clint Freeman 2 hole Budd wheels, Double Take steer tires, Scenes Unlimited drive tires, and various other parts box items. This is meant to depict a restored tractor. 8
1959scudetto Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Super build, Brian - someone, who knows his stuff... I can't remember seeing any pictures of Carolina truck tractors looking this clean - they always seemed to be covered with dirt, dust and road grime (be it in one of my trucking books or on the - unfortunately long defunct - Hank Suderman site). You must have a great collection there...
Warren D Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Looks great. Must get terrible mileage with the aerodynamics of a brick.
leafsprings Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Great looking fleet tractor! The paint scheme goes well with the Ford cab, like the detailing and tire and wheel choice, very mid 70's looking!
cifenet Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 This is one good looking truck! Nicely detailed and faithfully reproduced!
lwwoodss Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 You do a great job building on these older truck, particularly the fleet unis. You are able to capture the simplicty this era of truck has compared to today. Great work.
J.B. Customs Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Really like the paint and the plates to put the IFTA stickers on nice detail
catpack68 Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Very nice work Brian! I remember seeing those Carolina Freight trucks?
Dutzie Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Great looking build as always, Brian. Awesome looking paint work.
Rockford Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Great looking fleet truck. I like the cut-off front bumper. So many fleets did that. I believe they thought it helped fuel mileage.
happy grumpy Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Great build Brian. Looks really cool in the natural light.
RSchnell Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Very nice work! Reminds me of all those Gene Tracy jokes about Carolina Freight drivers, most of whom would never have kept their truck as clean as yours!

I remember back in the 80s that truck bumpers seemed to get bent all of the time; deer, dogs, etc.. I don't know if this is truly the reason, but a driver told me that the short bumpers were to keep the bumper from being pushed back into the steer tire causing the truck driver to be unable to steer the truck, for example if a deer was hit. Of course there could have been multiple reasons. The company that my dad worked for put a small bumper on a Freightliner to save about 30lbs.
