Ok fellows, this Gentleman right here is next up on the bench.  This is an old, old AMT kit so a ton of clean up is needed.  I have been cleaning and fitting parts since yesterday.  I think I have the body, tailgate, and the chassis looking good.  I use Tamiya products so I was looking for a maroon color but they don't make it in an acrylic or lacquer in a bottle to airbrush so I bought the TS-11 Maroon and I'll have to decant it and thin it with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner.  I have a set of Jay's 21"/20" Torque Thrust D wheels and tires that I think I may use.  It's still early in the game so everything at this point is subject to change.

Looking forward to this. Great wheel/tire choice, stance looks perfect and the wheel wells look nice and full.

Are you going for the "gasser" look on the box art? Or low custom?

Well, it won't be a Gasser but I'm looking at a nice classic street machine.

Love this kit but I've always hated the molded in exhaust...

Love the wheels.

I hear ya.  I'll just grind out the stock exhaust.

Thanks.  Yeah, I like the torque thrust wheels.

Have to agree with everyone else on the wheels. Those will just never go out of style. You mention wanting a Maroon paint color. Tamiya offers what they call Mica Red # TS-39, while not exactly the old Honduras Maroon Metallic it's pretty close.

Thanks David.  I bought a can of the TS-11 Maroon that I'll decant and spray threw my airbrush.

Great. I used that on a '48 Ford a few years ago and while not a metallic, it sure looks good.

I'll bet it did look good.  I'm just not a fan of metallic paints.

I originally thought the wheels & tired I'm using would just fit but it looks like they are to wide and rub the fender opening.  So....I cut the axle housing off the leaf springs,  shortend the axle house and the leaf springs and reposition them more inboard.  Everything is setting up but I'll post pics later of the final fit just to make sure the ride height is what I'm looking for.

Totally going to enjoy watching this build Bob. And let's face it, the Nomad is the Debbe Dunning of automobiles....it doesn't matter how you dress her up, she's still going to look good :)

One thing AMT did right is to semi tub the rear wheelwells on some of there kits especially those with a drag option. Just check the 40 Coupe and you find you can get some fairly big tyres in there. I dont have this kit in my stash so I dont know if the interior will close up the wheelwells

I'll be lurkin'

I have done the exact same thing Bob, to the rear end of a 49 Ford I built too use a normal size radial tires ?.

Yup, I thought this was going to just be a simple kit this time around but major mods needed.
