Milo Posted July 16, 2023 Author Posted July 16, 2023 Is there a lacquer thinner, or can I just use enamel thinner?
gman Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 There are many lacquer thinners. You'll want to choose one that is designed to work with the lacquer paint you choose, and the conditions you'll be spraying it in. Enamel thinner is not appropriate for use with lacquers. If you go with a pre-thinned (ready to spray) lacquer, you'll only need some hardware store lacquer thinner for clean up of your air brush. 1

Most of the paint products that Chad mentioned require no thinner. Many of them come pre-thinned and ready to airbrush. Another good brand is "Scale Finishes". Steve 2
SCRWDRVR Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Most nail polishes are also lacquer and can be reduced with regular lacquer thinner..

Every brand of paint sells their own lacquer thinner, start with thinner from the same company as the paint. Enamel thinner doesn't mix with lacquer. Many of the paints I mentioned come pre-thinned for airbrush use. Tamiya LP series paint. I thin with Mr Hobby Mr Leveling Thinner. Just a bit less that 1:1. Maybe mike 65% paint, 35% thinner. Same goes for the Mr Color lacquer paint lin.
ctruss53 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 One more note. Mr Hobby Mr Leveling Thinner also works really well in Tamiya X and XF acrylic paints as well. 1
