beeRS Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Nice work so far Atin. The 2K finish looks great. I’m not familiar with this kit, but it does look good for an old 60s tooling. I love the box art too. Is it 1/25 or 1/24 scale? 1
Bugatti Fan Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 It's 1/24th scale so sits well with the two different Royales that Italeri made. 1 1

Funkychiken Posted August 13, 2023 Author Posted August 13, 2023 Started with the engine, not a very well engineered kit, and I could have added HT leads, but decided against it. I'm also starting on the chassis with pre asset, I might have to start sanding and polishing the body parts now, as its required for the chassis build up...
Funkychiken Posted August 18, 2023 Author Posted August 18, 2023 Lots of work here, its fiddly and takes a lot of time, but not much to show for it. Engine is 90% complete, but unfortunately, the Alclad II chrome is rubbing off on my fingers thtough handling ? The Chassis is also fiddly, some of the bits don't fit, so i've had to cut off some pins of connecting pieces. No large contact surfaces, so it's going to be one of those delicate models...
Bainford Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Cool project, and coming along nicely. I never heard of this kit, but I might need to try and find one. 1
Funkychiken Posted September 20, 2023 Author Posted September 20, 2023 (edited) Thank you all for the interest. Minor update, the chrome (Alclad II) has rubbed off the engine from all the handling, so I've masked with bits of paper & given them a re-spray. Was a bit fiddley, but it worked. Funkychiken Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 This is an old kit & it doesn't always have good fit, it takes a bit of effort to get thrings right Plus do you paint before assembly, or after?! Thecentre hinge of the bonnet is silver (chrome), but I for some reson, the Alclad II chrome rubs off rather easily, so it disappeared during handling. As seen in this image, i used the body and front grille as a jig for setting. But unfortunately, the pegs left an imprint in the Zero 2K and it needed to be re-polished. despite the efforts, the 5 piece bonnet isn't quite square, and the front left side is a bit wonky, but luckily, I'm not looking for perfection.
Funkychiken Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 Masking and spraying the floor of the interior
Funkychiken Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 The Chassis now glued to the boddy. the engine isn't glued in, but I've been trying to set the dash with the steering wheel as it comes out of the engine. 1
Funkychiken Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 The left side interior panel was pre-painted & glued into the carriage. This was because the carriage was broken on the rear left corner, this allowed me to fill and sand effectively. I did mask for painting the body, but it leaked through. so I've had to mask and re-spray. I hoping that's the last of spraying on this one.
Funkychiken Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 The clever design of this dash is that there is a front piece with holes in it & a rear piece with the dials that fit through. I've also drilled out 6 of the knobs and replaced them with steel pieces. 1
Bugatti Fan Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Nice progress! This kit dates back to the 60's I believe when first released by Lindberg. I think Revell did a run of this kit some years ago too. 1
Funkychiken Posted November 8, 2023 Author Posted November 8, 2023 I have made steady progress, but I'm fighting this kit for every assembly step. Mostly fit isn't great. What dry fitted well prior to painting is a bit of a pain after several assembly steps. The Chassis is now complete, not everything fits properly, but its close enough. the coachwork is complete too. Just final trim and seats left to do. I'm still annoyed at the Alclad II chrome, it keeps rubbing off during assembly handling. I'm having to regularly re-mask and re-spray. 1
Bugatti Fan Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 (edited) Alclad is like that, along with other 'plating' spray paints. Try Alclad's acrylic clear sealer on it after it has dried. Edited November 9, 2023 by Bugatti Fan 1

Funkychiken Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 only 8ish pieces left to add! thanks for joining in on the journey and for your comments, likes and suggestions! next up will be in finished cars...
Funkychiken Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 So I won't be able to touch it, or the Alcald II will rub off, but I'm calling this done. Enjoyable build, and my best ever paint finish! happy with how it turned out. 1
NOBLNG Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 That looks really great!? What a beast that thing is.? 1
Pierre Rivard Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 It looks awesome. Anyone want to parallel park this thing? 1
Zippi Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Such a good looking build. That paint is like butter. 1
