ModelcarJR Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 This is an old AMT kit with opening doors that I thought I would build again some years later. More mild custom this time. The paint is Tamiya Light Red Pearl and Dupli-Color Dark Toreador Metallic on the outside and Dark Toreador Metallic on the inside with Krylon Sand Dollar seats and other accents. I built my own brass door hinges and used magnets to help keep the door closed. Custom seats, wheels and headlight bezels from the kit. The front splash pan was mounted further in to move the bumper closer to the grill. The blue oval decal on the water bottle was a little big so I improvised. The right side of the hood won't sit down but there is nothing I can do about that. Thanks for looking! 9
atomicholiday Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 That looks awesome. Super clean build and great colors. Nice job.
XYHARRY Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 That's a beautiful Fairlane there John. Your choice of colours, wheels and stance work well on this. Well done. Cheers, David. ??
espo Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Beautiful looking colors and trim finishes. Like how you redid the interior.
karbuildr Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 I really like this, the two tone color combo really works. Excellent build. I've built this kit and the doors have always been the weak point. You did a great job on the doors.
Bills72sj Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Very nice. Thanks for sharing. What was your technique on the trim insert? Paint, decal?
ModelcarJR Posted July 24, 2023 Author Posted July 24, 2023 Thanks, All! I appreciate all the nice comments! Bill, the insert is the gold BMF. Kinda touchy because if you're not careful it will rub off. I do the gold insert first because the gold foil actually rolls up once you cut it off the backing (maybe because its about 20 years old) so it is hard to lay down. Once the gold foil is down and cut then I trim using the chrome BMF. Thanks for asking!
happy grumpy Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Excellent job. I like the color treatment. Thanks for sharing.
Street Rod Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Beautiful! Great job on the foil work and the paint, looks very appropriate for 1950’s.
ModelcarJR Posted July 25, 2023 Author Posted July 25, 2023 Thanks, everyone! I appreciate all the very nice comments!
ncbuckeye67 Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Beautiful work! I really love the color combination. Those colors look amazing together. It would be great to see the interior better. Do you happen to have some in process pics?
TooOld Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Nice one John ! Love those colors , your paint and foil look near perfect !
