Chuckyg1 Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I'm researching for my next build, Revells' 68 Chevelle SS. I want to go with a blue interior, but I'm running into conflicting info. I've found the complete dash & wheel in blue, or the instrument cluster and and wheel black with the rest of the dash in blue. I've also noticed the cowl below the windshield is either solid black, or body color with only the vents being black. Any experts out there know which is correct? Thanks in advance.
NOBLNG Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Don’t know if this is any help? http://chevellestuff.net/1968/interiors/index.htm I seems like Chevy also used interior parts supplied by other GM divisions.
Chuckyg1 Posted July 27, 2023 Author Posted July 27, 2023 Thanks Greg. There's a wealth of info here. I've saved it for future reference needs. Unfortunately, it's not what I'm looking for. I appreciate the response.
Len Woodruff Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 (edited) My 1:1 68 SS396 had an Ash Gold Interior like the exterior. Edited July 28, 2023 by Len Woodruff
Chuckyg1 Posted July 28, 2023 Author Posted July 28, 2023 That's helpful. I'm thinking the black instument panels might be for non SS cars. Bet yours is awesome. Do you get get on the road after? Thanks for the input.
espo Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Have you checked online at Google? Look up Google images and tell it what year and model you are looking for. You will be given several options to look at, and many of the pictures are of original or restored vehicles. As I recall on the Chevelles many of the low line models would have a black steering column and wheel. As you move into say a Malibu or SS style interior you will notice a more color coordinated look. Many of the interior colors, and your blue color as well, will have a slightly darker shade on the dash and seating surface along with some door panels and the carpet will be a darker shade.
Chuckyg1 Posted July 28, 2023 Author Posted July 28, 2023 Yes, that's where I got the conflicting info. I specifically searched for 68 Chevelle SS blue dashboard to filter out the lesser models, (300, Malibu, etc.). Still got mixed results. I may just go with the black instrument panel. It'll be visually more interesting and easier to detail. ? I'll wait through the weekend in case someone has a definitive answer. Thank you.
Can-Con Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Here's a link to the brochure for the '68 Chevelles. It shows the SS with the black wheel and instrument panel and the Malibu and Concours with different colored wheels and panel. BUT these details sometimes change during a production run or if certain parts were out of stock. That's why they sometimes ended up with Buick or Pontiac seats from the factory. http://oldcarbrochures.org/United States/Chevrolet/1968-Chevrolet/1968-Chevrolet-Chevelle-Brochure-Rev/index.html
Len Woodruff Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 The SS in Ash Gold w/ Ash Gold interior shows the Dash in Ash Gold with the Gauge panel contrasted in black. Like I remember mine being.

I only did a basic search, searching brochures, etc. never crossed my mind. I'll know better next time. Yeah production line changes happened all the time. While reseaeching, I read that the black color running on the bottom of the car was standard but deleted when stripes were added. Not too long after production began, the black was left on regardless if stripes were added. just one of a number changes that occured. Thanks to you and everyone who took the time to respond. There's no place better than this forum. 1

Like I remember mine being. My first car was an Ash Gold 68 Malibu with an Ash Gold interior (I did not know the name of the color back then). It was a wimpy 307 Powerglide on the column. 1

There's no place better than this forum. I was thinking further about the information I had given you the other day. I don't think it was as good as it could have been, so this morning I looked around again on google and just entered "1968 Chevelle Interiors". Far better results with pictures of actual cars with blue interiors. Be careful of the pictures you look at as some of them are actually of the '66 & '67 interiors and they are easily identified by looking at the shape of the dashboard. The pictures seem to indicate that the interior seat, door panels, carpet and most of the dashboard are all the same shade of blue based on the photos. The area of the dash around the gauges, steering column and steering wheel all are done in black.
