Pierre Rivard Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 A new project. Taking this slowly with much research required about the specifics of this car. This will be my very first resin build so it comes with a mix of excitement and some worries on how to proceed. How to prepare surfaces, paints, glue etc. For now a picture of the subject and unboxing of the kit. Let the research begin. Advice about working with resin welcome! 3
Gramps46 Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 I almost shorted out my phone salivating on it. Hand laced wheels?
absmiami Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Thats what Pinto’s kits are known for …. thing 1 - clean away the visible flash on each part and then prime all the parts - that will then reveal a bunch of flaws and unseen flash - just rinse and repeat …
Rich Chernosky Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I'm with Gary, Those wire wheels.....ooohh!. Once you get all the flash off scrub as much as you can with scouring powder then prime. If you use a grinder on any parts wear a mask....the dust is a lung irritant. Epoxy and super glues are the only thing that will hold parts together. Resin works pretty easily so pinning and drilling of small parts is also recommended. FPP kits can be turned into real masterpieces. Good luck with it. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted August 1, 2023 Author Posted August 1, 2023 Yes Gary, hand laced wheels. The best looking wheels I've ever seen. Andy and Rich, thanks for the advice. This resin stuff is all new to me so I'm taking in all the info I can get.
1959scudetto Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Pierre, you will certainly turn this one into another masterpiece - I will follow this build as with the 250 P. 1
Chris Smith Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I find if you give the resin a (polident) bath, it cleans the parts well of the release agent. Yes polident for dentures ? 1
afx Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Looks like a great kit. Looking forward to watching you add your touch to it 1
Bugatti Fan Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) This will be an interesting build to follow. Vintage classic racers have more appeal to me than modern F1 cars. I would like to get hold of one of the FPP Bugatti 251 kits that are now out of production. It raced just once I believe back in the 50's as it turned out to be a failure. Trintignant the driver pulled out of the race claiming that the car was a death trap allegedly. Edited August 3, 2023 by Bugatti Fan
absmiami Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Dont assume that the 251 isn’t still available - contact Pinto thru hos facebook page and inquire …
Bugatti Fan Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Thanks for the feedback about the 251 kit Andrew. Thought it long out of production and not available at all. I will try to contact FPP about it.
Big John Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Not to get too far off topic but Fernando does post the 251 fairly often on theebay auction site. Bellow is one that Curt Raitz had at NNL West22. I navee several of the FP models and am fascinated by Fernando's use of embedding wires for the suspension or in this case for the fender mounts! Looking forward to the rest of this build. 2
Bugatti Fan Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Thanks for showing Curt's 251 model John. Looks like I unintentionally created a bit of a rabbit hole on this thread. So my apologies to Pierre as I did not mean to create a distraction from his Alfa build that he is kindly sharing with us on here.
Pierre Rivard Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 No need for an apology Noel. all that discussion is quite instructive while I am in the research phase for the Alfa project. I should have posted when ready to start building but I could not hold off showing this promising kit. Mr. Pinto sent me a mail (through E-bay) when I purchased this kit. It was portrayed as the 34 winner but he simply offered I choose which version I would prefer 1931, 32, 33 or 34 LM winner) and kit it for me. I am sure that if you contact Mr. Pinto he will get you that 251.
MarkJ Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Wow, that's about the best resin casting I have ever seen. I've only done one resin so I cannot tell you much about it. The one I did was of very poor quality. So, the final result was not very good either.
PhilX Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 I'm very interested, as I have the 2 Alfa-Romeo 8C 2300 FPP Modelos Le Mans 1933 and 1934 in my stash. Always problems of color on these very ancient cars. The 1934 was blue, as a french owned car. So I made some research for the 1933 one. If the rear was obviously red, the color of the nose is not known with certitude. Some specialists think pale yellow and others think bright yellow. So, it's up to you ...

We just don't know. What shades of red and yellow? Red or black wheels? Color of passenger compartment tarp? So it is up to me. Stay tuned.
absmiami Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 Pierre - i just ordered pinto’s latest - the ‘32 Alfa 8c type b …. Got a particular car in mind …

Got a particular car in mind … Dominant GP car in the early thirties. Fernando shows it as the 32 Italy winner with Tazio at the wheel. But that would be too obvious right?
PhilX Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I suppose you know this drawing by Géo Ham, a french artist of the 30's, who has spent his life along the racetracks. Other drawings exist with a bright yellow nose by Rob Roy, but they were drawn in the 70's. And Fernando Pinto choose the bright color which is more attractive ...
Mittagskind Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 On this B/W photo the hood appears very light. This also could be a notice, that the color was a light yellow.

This is why I try to find period artwork to use as reference. Thanks for posting.
