Scale-Master Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 This is going to be an early '70s Fairlady Z with a G-nose. It will not be one of the factory colors for a true 240ZG, but rather a "wish it had been offered" dark blue. It will not be getting the bolt on flares of the ZG cars either since they make the car with stock wheels (and hub caps) look anemic. It will keep the fender mounted mirrors since they go with the right hand drive. This could be a semi-clone built back in the day, or something that was done recently. I started with the exhaust. 1
Justin Porter Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Which kit are you using for the base? I'm really curious to see your "Homebrew ZG" take shape. 1
Scale-Master Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 This is the Tamiya kit Justin. The engine built up nicely… 5
Scale-Master Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 Thanks! I painted the chassis as if it was factory stock then added some grime and dirt. 2
Scale-Master Posted August 6, 2023 Author Posted August 6, 2023 I painted the windshield washer bottle to be 3/4 full. 12
Jonathan Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 That washer bottle! Just that one detail makes this awesome. 1
kelson Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 I saw you tutorial on how to do the washer bottle, very simple but yields very realistic results.? 1
Scale-Master Posted August 8, 2023 Author Posted August 8, 2023 The rear suspension and engine were added. So was a little surface rust on the brake drums. 4
Scale-Master Posted August 8, 2023 Author Posted August 8, 2023 The wheels are part of why I wanted to build this kit. I'm not a fan of these iconic hubcaps, but they looked to be engineered so well I just had to build them. 1
beeRS Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Such excellent building skills! Just the perfect amount of weathering underneath. I would love to learn how to do this. I agree with you about the arches. It looks better without. I thought Tamiya would have made a derivative kit of the regular 240Z by now. 1
Scale-Master Posted August 9, 2023 Author Posted August 9, 2023 I test fitted the exhaust, but it needs to be dirtied up a bit before final installation. 1
slusher Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Great progress and looking awesome! Very realistic weathering! Edited August 10, 2023 by slusher 1
Scale-Master Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 Thanks!! I was a bit disappointed to see this. It was visible on both sides. I filled it with CA and continued to paint it Wolf Blue. 1
Matt Bacon Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) This is looking fantastic… I’m going to steal some of your engine bay details for my Samuri, too… best, Matt Edited August 10, 2023 by Matt Bacon 1
Bainford Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Coming along very nicely. Bummer about the hood. 1

I agree, they're so excellently engineered, even if I don't actually like them, it's a model builder's joy to assemble them! 1
