I started this one 2 weeks ago using the Ridge Runner kit. I did the usual, took about 5/16" out of the chassis to get the engine closer to the firewall. Cut out the crossmember to get it back accordingly. Took out he fuel cell and about a 1/4" from the rear of the chassis.

I used a 3D printed Muncie & bellhousing from VCG Resins, really clean stuff, needed zero prep. The headers, I extended the tubes using 3/32" styrene tubing, added 1/8" so it gets them away from the body.

Other stuff in the box are a few front bumper options, spoilers made from .005" brass, a NASCAR donor rear-end cooling pump as a steering quickener that will be on the firewall. Also will mount clutch & brake masters from a Craftsman truck kit.

Most items I have set up to be pinned with 1/32" stainless steel pins. I need to get some 3/64" pins, makes life easier. 

The roll cage is a parts box creation, the kit one was too wonky for me. I cut out the transmission tunnel and made a new one from .030" styrene stock. The body is close to 100% ready for paint, the chassis needs a little more work.

I just wanted to show you these things. That's three styles of steering quickeners. These things are about the size of your fist and just have a pair of gears inside of them. They go inline from the teering shaft to the steering box. I just figured you might could use the pics if you are going for accuracy. It sounds and looks like an interesting build so far.

I might try making one up, thanks. The style I came up was used many moons ago and usually looks great when done. I may hang an oil cooler off the side like I have done with other builds. I'm still in the priming-sanding stage on most parts.

Back on the Pinto. It has been close to being done, ran into some snags and put it aside.

Paint is Model Master Lacquer and their clear coat. I'm not going to polish it.

Wheels I got at a show from a vendor called Nutmeg Hobby. I would love to get more. I'm going to look into having them printed. Lug nuts are Detail Master hex fittings.

I just made up the radiator details.

I like these over what Ron has, I have lots of his wheels and tires that I used on my two Fairlane builds. One guy in the club is a 3D printing guru so I have to talk with him. The OG source was a place called Nutmeg Hobbies in Virginia, I probably got these 15 years ago at a show. I still have more of them.

Those are some great looking wheels, as is everything else you've done. I especially like what you did with the roll cage. Growing up and living in the south pretty much my whole life, I was never exposed to a lot of modified racing, especially on  asphalt. That said, I've always thought that MPC missed the mark on the cages in this particular series. I'm enjoying your build.

I lived in the world of NASCAR modifieds growing up. From the injected coupes, to the Vegas and Pintos, onto the newer sleek Cavalier bodies ones. The MPC kit is actually a starting point and not much more. I end up changing so much of it. I would work with any model company that wanted to make up a better more realistic one. I think that the market is there.

A couple of shots from today. I got the radiator and oil cooler in. And the carb and air cleaner are on. 

Next is the bumpers, side rails and headers. I'm switching to another hood as well.

Thanks, MM Extreme Lacquer Bronze. The cans spray quite well and I went over it with their clear, the last ones I have done required no polishing. Good enough for a stock car.
