gotnitro? Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 (edited) A group of builders that attend the Fulton NY model show decided to have a group build, doing something that Gary would've built. I wasn't sure what to build until a friend suggested this. A quick swap for a parts box, I had my build. The plan is kinda loose right now, it might end up being a dump truck..dunno. The build starts w a kit and goodies.. Thats right folks..steel hoods rule !!!! I have some big tires, and old school spokes being cast..so I tore into the box. First up was a cab mockup w the steel hood. I've always admired the steel hood builds on here, and this is no different. That's it for now, while half the kit soaks in chrome stripper.. Gary Chastain Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Like where this is going, will be watching
vincen47 Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Great idea for a group build. This will be a nice tribute.
TruckerAL Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Gary was the absolute man when it came to quality resin! I love your build choice. Ill be following along. I did my own tribute truck to him too. Used a handful of his parts on my buildtruck. It's my favorite in the collection. Long live Gary ?

I'm planning to use a couple for this Thanks Alex, beautiful tribute truck 3
gotnitro? Posted September 9, 2023 Author Posted September 9, 2023 The paint went down today! I wasn't sure what color I was using until I saw a photo of a different auctioned nysdot truck..and the plan was hashed. This will be a lowboy hauling tractor. Tamiya blue and Rustoleum sunburst yellow went down after a primer coat. The Mack letters in the grill surround might be yellow or steel like the grill bars..haven't decided. Thanks for looking! 1
12V71 Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Very nice, Jeff. I looks great and I'll be watching for sure. Think you'll have it ready for Fulton this year? I wish I could take credit for making the decals, but they were made by Diecast and Decals. Here's a link to their website if any one is curious. http://www.diecastanddecals.com/ Thanks, Joe
gotnitro? Posted September 13, 2023 Author Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) Thanks Joe for following along, hoping to have it done for Fulton. The tires shipped from the west coast, so progress is happening . I've had Joe print several decals for previous buids, glad to see he is part of this ! gotnitro? Posted September 17, 2023 Author Posted September 17, 2023 A sneak peek at what arrived from my buddy on the west coast for the Mack. These are just sitting against the axles, still need to be fit onto the axle mounts. The lowboy hauler theme is coming together. I found a pair of diamond plate fenders, and plan to use them. Toying idea of fabbing a hydraulic tank behind the cab, there's a large void I'd like to fill. Ramps should be added to the 5th wheel too Any feedback or comments welcome 1

Warren D Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Either a hydro tank or headache rack for chain binders......
gotnitro? Posted September 24, 2023 Author Posted September 24, 2023 Thanks Warren ! Wknd update..the huge 12x24 wheels are painted and going on. I started fitting the details behind the cab. A spare hydro tank from Plow chaser fit perfectly for the era, some diamond plate decking, and of course the frame ramps. Thanks for following ? 1

Mopar - D Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Great project Jeff! I’m glad that I was able to get 2 of Gary’s steel Mack hoods it’s amazing how he was able to make the parts fit as if they were a kit option.
