Hello All

Have all 80's NASCARs had the grey chassis? Or do the colors vary? I am looking at Raybestos Buick, but it would be handy to know when painting other NASCAR's. Thanks

No. There was a lot of variance in interior colours back then.

An example: Earnhardt in the late 80's and '90s favoured a red interior paint scheme in his black cars. Same with Texas Terry Labonte in '84 -white and blue exterior colours but red interior. Petty ran with the traditional Petty blue throughout. Junior Johnson generally favoured black interiors to help hide his creative, rule-defying shenanigans.

Thomas from Germany rolled with the scheme you're looking to create in his build of that car:

That’s what made building NASCAR kits exciting years ago. Now from what I’ve seen here all cars the same in size, color and performance. Just different stickers. Would be cool if the kit manufactures would offer the body and decal kit. Could build one chassis and swap the bodies.

The Salvino kits are supposed to be iin this format. However I have found them to be made for the Buick Regal bodies (like the GMP Buicks) and other bodies need work to fill in gaps between the body, firewall, etc. I have a Pontiac Lemans of theirs going and had to add a lot to make it presentable on the flip side.

Thank you all for the help, it looks like grey, with flat red netting, but happy to stand corrected.

Hello Everyone

I am just wondering if I may impose for some more help. As far as I can tell, the 1990 Raybestos Buick is red, not metallic blue. I have decals for the red one, which explains why nothing matched. My question is does anyone have any suggestion on the red? It looks like a flat red from the one photo I have seen. Does anyone have any ideas on a closer match then flat red?  Thanks
