Can-Con Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Just gonna update the engine and lower the stock suspension. Was thinking about adapting the IFS setup from the AMT '34 Ford 5 window but I want to get it done this century so I'm gonna keep it a bit simpler. 4 Quote
larman Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Cool! Those wheels look really good! 1 Quote
Zippi Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 That's going to look pretty kewl. I'm liking those wheels & tires. 2 Quote
Can-Con Posted September 24, 2023 Author Posted September 24, 2023 Narrowed the rear axel. Might be a bit narrower then it needs to be but that's fine. It will work out so the springs mount up right against the frame. Here's a pic with another axel still on the sprue for comparison. Quote
slusher Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Great looking wheels for your projects, Steve! 1 Quote
Can-Con Posted October 8, 2023 Author Posted October 8, 2023 Well, I got the suspension where I want it. Almost ready to start painting the frame. I'm going with a 409 in this one. Added motor mounts to it so it fits up right where the original small block was. Had to relieve the floor and firewall a bit to clear the 4 speed tranny. Cleaned up the body some. straitened out the creases on the front fenders. They're quite bad as molded. 3 Quote

slusher Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Been a long time since I built a 55 or 57. Nice stance Steve! 1 Quote
Zippi Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Looking pretty sweet. I've built this kit once then rebuilt it. Quote
Street Rod Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Looking good so far! I’m with everyone else, the wheels and tires look great. Quote
Can-Con Posted October 22, 2023 Author Posted October 22, 2023 I think I have the body ready for paint. I'll need to touch up the BIN primer and give it a couple coats of gold lacquer to tell for sure. Got a lot done on the engine too,, 2 Quote
Can-Con Posted November 2, 2023 Author Posted November 2, 2023 Got the suspension glued down solid, this is the final stance. Paintwork is coming along too. 2 Quote

espo Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Like the stance. The engine looks great and nice to see a W engine done like this. 1 Quote

Can-Con Posted December 1, 2023 Author Posted December 1, 2023 Paint went south on me so I decided to make some alterations I should have to start with before I repaint it. First, I attached the filler pieces to the inner fenders and fill the seams. They're separate pieces so you can get the interior bucket in easily. I also glued the fire wall to the interior bucket and cut it off again back some on the bucket's side walls. This allows me to attach the firewall and then put in the interior. All this just to get rid of those seams on the inner fenders. I also addressed the fit of the windshield. It didn't fit too bad on my kit but it could be better and I also wanted to add the peak above the glass that's so prominent on the real trucks. I simply glued a strip of thin sheet across the top of the opening and another strip across the bottom for the glass to but up against. After filing the bottom back corners of the glass and the opening in the same area bit it fit a bit more snugly. Then I trimmed the strip I put across the top and tried the fit. Not perfect but a bit better and the top lip is now there Quote
NOBLNG Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Nice fix for the ill-fitting glass on these kits Steve.? I really like the updated 409 too!? 1 Quote
slusher Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 That is a nice fit on your wind shied! 1 Quote

I widened the window moldings slightly on a couple to try and compensate on the ones I built. Quote
Can-Con Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 Finally got the paint on. I did add some material to the windshield pillars and a couple tabs for glass placement. As gonna use the last of my HOK candy root beer but I guess it was too old. Had to thin it quite a bit and it didn't dry right. So I decanted some dark metallic brown duplicolor spray I had and let it sit for a week. All the metallic flake settled to the bottom and just left the transparent brown. Poured off the transparent brown and mixed it 50/50 with duplicolor clear and had my candy brown. 3 Quote
NOBLNG Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 It looks really nice! Pretty crafty solution for the paint treatment.? 1 Quote
