I use the empty kit boxes as homes for ongoing projects, as they're, amazingly, the perfect size for all the parts a model car requires.

As most of my projects are mashups of bits and pieces of numerous kits, I kinda rarely actually use a box a car came in as a build-box for that particular car...though sometimes it works out that way.

I also use empty kit boxes for safe storage of often fragile old resin and vacuum-formed bodies, which warp easily if they're stored with any pressure on them.

As I have more projects than I have empty kit boxes, shoeboxes, cigar boxes, and several kinds of food packaging make up the difference.

I hardly have the space for my unbuilt stash, let alone the empty boxes!

I usually cut the top off and keep that, along with the instructions. Everything else goes into the recycling bin.

Builds in progress use the original kit box until done.

When complete, the bottom gets reused as a parts bin (or recycled)

The tops get folded and stuffed in a stack under my parts dresser.

If the box has been damaged, it hits the recycle bin.

I have not yet reached the point where I am out of display space for my builds.

I HAVE reached the point where I am out of space for my stash.

I have two large boxes of unbuilt/never-will-get-built kits I need to make go away.

I would be happy to trade them off even at a significant loss as long as I am not wasting more cash on shipping them.

I've never really had an attachment to kit boxes so I throw them away when I can as a space saving measure. I have duplicates of many kits though, so I sometimes save a box of that particular kit and throw in all the extra parts from its sister kits in there. Knowing that all of the (for example) Chevy C-1500 parts from various kits are in the C-1500 box helps keep me organized.

I like to display old boxes alongside built kits. Old paints and glue get a look in as well.

Box tops can make nice looking backdrops for built models as well

Once the model is finished, I never keep the boxes. I do however occasionally buy specific old boxes for display purposes. You know, man cave decorations.

I keep the instructions, any useful extra parts and decals, and then throw out the box with the sprues and any parts I can’t use. Which is why the Aoshima Aventador I just finished is missing the exhaust tips. ?

OK. Thank you all for your responses. Another person told me he buys 550 baseball card boxes on line and uses them I can see where you could basically store 4 models in the space of one kit box.
