Monty Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I've never used this kinda stuff before but I'm going to need some soon. What I'm really hoping to find is a fluid that provides a great masking line but is still easy to remove when the painting is over. Pics of stuff you've done with your stated liquid mask would be greatly appreciated.
Dpate Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I don’t use this for masking a line, but for covering anything I don’t want paint to touch. It’s great stuff, and removes super easy with no residue. I’m sure it could be used for masking a line, but there may be other alternatives.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Basically the same stuff Dusty uses... I masked the grey center section of the quickchange rear end below. Apply with a fine brush (under magnification if necessary), let it dry, shoot your paint, peel the mask off. I'm pretty sure this stuff is polyvinyl-alcohol based, and it will also wash off with water if you can't get a clean peel.
dragstk Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Lately I have been using Vallejo liquid mask. Im pretty happy with it I tried the Abteilung. The first time I used it, it worked great. But when I went to use it the next time, the whole bottle had solidified into a gloopy mess. But maybe I just got an old bottle.
atomicholiday Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 @ Dusty and Bill - two questions. 1) Is bleed under still a problem, just like with masking tape? 2) How many coats of the mask do you need to brush on?

The way I use the stuff I’ve never had any bleed through. Never had bleed through with Tamiya tape except once. But with the mask you have to treat it like tape as well with building up coats or you’ll get an edge you’d have to sand down. Max I ever do is 2 coats because to thin a coat can let paint through, and I like to use the mask along with tape depending on the part.
