Look forward to following your build. Having owned a '58 Chevy two-door wagon many years ago you can understand my interest. You mentioned the '67 Chevelle chassis and would like to know if there was anything you had to do to use it.

Thanks Dave!  I shared a video on Facebook, of one for sale on Marketplace (it's in Kentucky). You're fortunate to have owned a classic car. Maybe I will someday. My plan is to try to put a supercharged 572 (Iceman Collections) in her, with some Pegasus wheels & tires (4 wheel disc brakes). I picked up a couple of Revell 67 Chevelle rebuilders recently, and found that the chassis fit under the Impala with absolutely no modifications (woo hoo!). I wanted a more modern chassis under the 58, to give it a Restomod look. The Impala is an old RMR Vacuum Craft kit (slush cast), so there's lots of grinding & sanding on the inside needed to make sure the glass & chrome fit, but so far no issues with the chassis at all.

Thanks for the info on your resin body. The one I bought last year is from Star Models. After seeing what you posted on using the '67 Chevelle chassis I had to see if the wheelbase would line up on the body that I have. The chassis looks like it would fit on mine as well. I'll still need to find a grill and bumpers to finish. I don't want to cannibalize a '58 Impala kit so I'll have to look around for that. As for owning a "classic" '58 Yeoman wagon, a guy I used to work for wanted a '57 Ford two door that I had fixed up and he traded me the '58 wagon and a couple hundred dollars since I could use the money at the time. While the wagon was in perfect running condition the paint was oxidized from always sitting outside in the weather and never saw any type of waxing or other paint protection. The guy who traded the wagon to me got it from one of his lodge brothers who was a house painter, and this was his work truck for years. This gets better, the colors seemed to match the Forestry colors of green body and light gray room and had the basic 283 with a two barrel. The transmission was a 3 on the tree but had an overdrive on it. Chevrolets from that era that I remember that had factory 3 speeds rarely if ever had an overdrive. Ford on the other hand were normally found with an overdrive more common than not. At the time I thought of it as just an old car to commute to work in and wagons were just considered old family cars at the time, unlike now. As much as I liked and preferred my old '57 Ford I now kick myself for ever letting the wagon get away. Anyway, I'll watch your build to see what all you are going to do with it.

Thank you for sharing that story. So cool! I really want to do a "Lace" decal on the roof (STS Decals has some really cool ones), but I'm not sure how that will work with my light blue pearl (body) & White pearl (roof). I met the STS folks at a recent show, and they will customize any order, so I may try go go with a light blue "Lace". I'm also going to attempt to flock the door panel "carpeted" areas, and the tops of the seats (to represent suede). So far I'm having trouble getting the hood to close. The supercharger is a bit tall, so I may have to go back to Iceman, and get a different 572.

I look forward to following your build as well! I hated to "cannibalize" the Impala kit I have, but I do have another one in my stash. The AMT 58's are very easy to find, and they're still pretty affordable. I'm trying to get my hands on a Revell 58 impala, but not having much luck so far.

I also got to meet the husband-and-wife team from Scale Model Decals at the Heartland Nationals in June here in Overland Park Kansas. Great people and very interested in any ideas for decals. They should be able to provide just about any type of pattern and ideas of how to use them for your build.  In the past we would use some fabric with a pattern in it as if it was a mask and shoot the contrasting color over that. I'm getting some trim parts I need from MODLBLDR here on the forum so that I can start on mine after I finish the Baja Bug model. As for your Super Charger, depending on the look you want you could always tailor the hood opening around the Super Charger and have it stick thru the hood without any scoop. Maybe a hood from another model that has a scoop meant for a Super Charger and graft that section into your hood.

I added a scoop from a ZL-1 Camaro kit. Haven't tried to shave anything from the underside of the hood yet. Not really looking to cut the hood.

Definitely interested in your build.   I am a wagon fan!!

Thanks Carl. Me too! I'm dying to get started on my 55 Nomad & 57 Del-Rio. I already have an "Iceman Collections" Coyote motor for it.

Cool project.  Did Chevy make a '58 Nomad or is this a phantom build?  Either way it's a cool idea.

Thanks! Yes, Chevy did make a 58 Nomad. I found one for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

This looks like it should be a fabulous looking custom. You have some great ideas going there.

David G.

Thank you David! I'm thinking about adding a hinge to the hood near the bumper, to have it open backwards like a Corvette.

The '58 Chevy Nomad was a four-door body style, unlike the '55 to '57 two door that is so popular. The only two door wagons that Chevrolet offered in '58 was a base model called a Yeoman.
