Roadrunner Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 Looks like the main body might just be salvageable after all. I'll keep plugging away and see where it goes. 1
David G. Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Fabulous progress on this one Kevin! I certainly believe the body can be saved. You do seem to have the skills required, it's just a matter of time and energy. But what isn't? David G. 1

I've been plugging away with tiny sanding sticks and whatnot, and it's looking way better.
Rattlecan Dan Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Looking better and better. Keep after it Kevin. 1
Roadrunner Posted November 3, 2023 Author Posted November 3, 2023 Test fitting the body. Revell instructions call for adding fenders to chassis much later, but I decided it best to do it now. Good thing I chose this option, as body needs some tweaking to mate properly with fenders. 1
David G. Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 It looks great so Kevin. I swear by the test fit. It's saved me so much aggravation. David G. 1
Bullybeef Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 This is a fine looking sedan, as others have mentioned test fitting on most kits will always save you trouble in the end. Keep plugging away you are doing a great job. 1
bill-e-boy Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Good save on the body. Test fitting is one of the most important tasks to do when building a model especially when you change things around 1
Roadrunner Posted November 4, 2023 Author Posted November 4, 2023 Thanks, fellas, I appreciate the encouragement. 1

Roadrunner Posted November 5, 2023 Author Posted November 5, 2023 Hood/radiator interface had a nasty low spot, probably from heavy handed sanding on my part, so I've added some surfacer to level it out. 1
Roadrunner Posted November 5, 2023 Author Posted November 5, 2023 After some sanding, grinding and carving, I now have an adequate fit of the rear fender area (both sides). 2
Roadrunner Posted November 7, 2023 Author Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Hood and radiator housing had some minor alignment issues, so I filled, sanded and re-scribed that interface (it was actually worse than I had originally thought). It now looks much better, I think. Edited November 7, 2023 by Roadrunner
bobss396 Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Good idea to get fit woes tackled early on. I see more than a few guys who paint the body first and are in a pickle down the road. 1 1
Roadrunner Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 I believe I’ve found a wheel/tire combination that will work well for this car (snatched from a Monogram ’29 Ford pick-up kit). Wheels will of course be sprayed with Alclad chrome. Rear tires will receive Goodyear logos as well.
Roadrunner Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 Hood now glued in position to the body, right front fender tweaked for a better fit, and I'm now very close to the painting stage.
Roadrunner Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 There was a small gap between the engine cowling and body, but I've addressed that with some wonderful Vallejo putty. I love that stuff!
Roadrunner Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 More gaps dealt with. For some reason, I just couldn't get the fenders to fit 100% right.
David G. Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Good call on the wheels, they should look great. I wonder what's causing the gaps. Worn molds maybe? David G. 1
slusher Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 I really like your wheel choice! Your doing a terrific job! 1

Worn molds maybe? David G. Probably poor engineering by them, or poor prep work by me. I'm going to guess the latter. I just picked up a fresh 20lb CO2 tank today, so I can now resume some more painting on this, which pleases me a bunch.
Roadrunner Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 I have no idea why I hadn't seen this before, but a previous attempt was made to scribe around many of the body moldings.
Roadrunner Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 After three good doses of liquid cement and some scouring with Scotch-Brite pads, I was able to make it look at least acceptable, so I've now gone ahead with the diamond flake. 1

It’s amazing what the camera will pick out that the eye doesn’t notice.? It is really looking sharp now Kevin.? 1
