ewetwo Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Just thought I would share this. USPS is increasing some rates on November 18th While the Postal Service is not adding any Holiday Surcharges this year, they are increasing Priority Mail rates everywhere you can buy postage online ? Priority Mail Flat Rate is increasing up to 6%, because USPS is removing this service from the Connect eCommerce program that provided deeper discounts, so the rates are returning to the Commercial Pricing levels. Weight-Based Priority Mail is increasing up to 10% in zones 1-4, but it'll still have discounts that are cheaper than Commercial Pricing ? Dimension-Based Priority Mail Cubic is increasing up to 23% in zones 1-4 for tiers 0.40 and 0.50—so the largest package sizes for this service are getting more expensive in the lowest zones. But the rates are still cheaper than Commercial Pricing ? Ground Advantage is decreasing up to 16% in zones 1-5, depending on the size and weight of your package. Rest assured Pirate Ship will continue passing through the cheapest shipping rates available for USPS with no hidden costs or monthly fees ? ? Read more about the upcoming USPS rate change here Holiday Shipping Deadlines If you need your packages to arrive before December 25th, here's the shipping deadlines: UPS® Ground & UPS® Ground Saver: Delivery times vary—use our Rates calculator to get an estimate! Well, we were just informed that natural gas will be a bit cheaper here as they're going to lower the rate. But, the electric rates are going up possibly double digits. So the end result is it doesn't matter.

When natural gas was "deregulated" here years ago, the "increased competition" was supposed to lower the rates. Yeah, right. The gas still came through the existing underground piping infrastructure, owned by the old gas company, and the new "providers" had to pay a fee for using it. And having no delivery infrastructure of their own, the new guys marked up the cost of the gas to cover the fees...and the original gas company, the piping owners, jacked their prices too, essentially adding on a fee for using their own piping. The net result was that costs went up for everyone, including those who stayed with the original company. My monthly base rate in summer jumped from $15 to $45. And anyone with a brain knew that was exactly what was going to happen.
Rob Hall Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 Electricity was deregulated here in NE Ohio sometime before I moved back in 2017, different suppliers 'competing' in theory. They all seem to be within a few cents per kWh of each other.. never saw this anywhere else I've lived, always had only one provider.
BlackSheep214 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Ever noticed some grocery items used to be bigger, now they're smaller yet charges the same price? Two good examples... Paper towels at BJs used to be big rolls (close to 200 sheets per roll) now they're 160 sheets per roll. Walmart Perfect Kitty litter. They used to carry 25 lb bag for $4 each. Now same litter brand shrunk to 20 lb bag ans still charging $4 a bag. I can easily get 3 litterbox changes in a 25 lb bag. With a 20 lb bag, 2 1/2 litter box changes... at best if I'm lucky.

The postal clerk said the same thing. She said they raised it the last time. Then reduced it after the holidays. Then raised it back up seeing people would pay the increase. She said things change so fast she can't keep up with it.

It's called "shrinkflation" and it's been going on as long as there have been things to buy. "Great New Package ! Same size, but there's less in it !! Costs more !!!" Yeah, what a deal.

Its been going on for a long time. Yes, is called "shrinkflation". Slightly smaller cans of tuna fish, or domed bottoms on peanut butter jars (to reduce the amount in a jar which otherwise looks to be the same size, but it is lighter) are some more examples.
