I remember reading someone's opinion a long time ago that the '66 Buick Skylark was the "sexiest" of all the GM A-bodies in that year and I've always agreed with that thought!

I built the Ironside version when I was in California, with my Uncle Sam..

On the subject of reissues, I wonder if AMT's 1940 Ford Coupé tooling will eventually get a well deserved overhaul to restore the details of the hood stamping and trim as well as the shape of the front wheel openings - perhaps with addition of the finned flathead cylinder heads exclusive to the seventies' "Street Rods"-series issue...?

Sure, this classic kit may seem dated by today's standards, but I still consider it amazingly enjoyable to build considering the age of the tooling.

The trim on the 40 Ford hood was never all that well pronounced to begin with, and that is actually for a reason. Unlike the body, which has sliding side inserts, the hood is a two part mold set up. All molds have to have a a draft angle to facilitate the part coming out of the mold. If the trim was more pronounced, it would get stuck in the mold, similar to tongue and groove construction in wood working. The Revell hood benefits from the sliding side inserts on the tool, and allows for the more pronounced trim. But that tool is also about 35 years newer. The Street Rods issue indeed had a nice set of finned heads. I'd like to see those come back, myself. Even cooler would be the side exiting headers, chrome Buick stock style valve covers, skirts, and and cone disk wheel covers and flames of the original.

SteveG, If the Skylark does eventually get cloned, may I suggest working on finessing the fit of the front and rear bumpers, and in memory of Snake, straightening the bulge on top of the driver's door? Once he pointed it out, couldn't unsee it...

And a real pipe dream: a limited run of that '52 Pontiac promo body in styrene? Maybe under a revived Blueprinter brand? Want one SO bad!

I was just looking at my copy of the annual a few minutes ago, I specifically looked for those issues you mention and couldn't see any problems with mine.

Were you referring to the annual or the simpler, "Craftsman Plus" kit

It's slightly smaller than 1/25th scale, and so is the '51 Chieftain.

Craftsman, although the annual was partly the same tooling. Straighten the line atop the driver's door:

Make the front bumper ends align with the body:

Align the V-angle of the tail panel and trunk lid:

Just went and checked mine again.

The front bumper does protrude a bit at the sides but the real ones do to. But there's no gaps around them like in your pic.

No hump in the door and the back bumper lines up much better then the one in your pic.

I can take some pics tomorrow if you like.

For now, here's a side shot of a real car. My front bumper doesn't protrude much more then this.

The windshield header area needs a lot of improvement too. The drip rail moulding does not dip down at the front as it transitions into the header moulding, just like the other 66-67 GM A-Bodies. The kit/Craftsman body dips down making the windshield header moulding is too low

Glad to see this idea getting traction Dave. I have been advocating it for a while now.

I've tried a few times to get some of the small-scale kits reissued but either the tooling was missing, or they never made the approval list, still never say never.

As for the ZZR Spy Rod I'm pretty sure that it was altered to make the Fire Bug Show Rod, I'd have to check with John G. on how much tooling remains for it if any.

I'm certainly a fan of creating a '70 Duster version based on the modern '71 kit.   I built my own almost 20 years ago back when I was doing some resin casting using one of my resin grille inserts and a set of The Last Detail decal sets.  I have floated the idea several times already, I'm hoping it will make the project list sooner than later.

Steve, will we get a mpc ‘68 Impala convertible or ‘71 caprice/impala in the near future?

I can't really say what I'm working on for near future, but I would certainly like to bring back many of the missing MPC full-size Chevy's if given the chance.

?thanks for the reply Steve G. It would be cool to see those come back.

People selling original unbuilt ‘68 Impala convertibles on eBay for upwards of $300 is insane & out of the question for many of us builders.

Guys.....Steve has many way cool ideas under investigation, and I'm pretty sure I don't even know a fraction of the overall portfolio of projects he is considering.  But please keep in mind, too, that he is working in a world of limited constraints (people resources, availability of funding, supply base constraints, et al).

All of which is to say that please don't be disappointed if your ideas are not the next ones out of the shoot.  And that your best insurance policy of making sure some of these actually come to fruition is to continue buyng the new Round 2 products that have just hit the market or have been announced earlier this year, even if in some cases they are not 100% within your own personal areas of intterest...

And Steve, thanks for keeping in touch with those of us who read these forums....very much appreciated by us all.

So, Far, I have to say that I have been more than happy with most of the Round2 kits this year. I am getting about 50% of the kits that are coming out. The Funny Cars don't do much for me, but I am really liking the many pickups and older cars. I see the '69 Falcon Mod Stocker is in the pipeline. That is good.

My Favorite Subjects have not been done yet, but I have hope that all of them are at least on the Radar, so I just wait to see what happens next. My own list of favorites are not that obscure.

All the other '32 Fords. (Esp. the Roadster and Phaeton)

The Gen 2 '72-81' Camaros. ( I know, one is in Test Shot Status right now.)

The AMT AMC Matadors & Javelins.

And I'd Like to see the MPC Stutz Beacat and AMT Thomas Flyer, return. Maybe as a Twin Pack

The Javelin was Jo-Han's so will Never be seen again. Remember, AMT offered Many Jo-Han kits

from the 66/7 Toronado to the Javelin.

I had 3 of the Mark Donahue/Penske AMX-Javelin kit and have 2 of the J-H and 1 AMT boxed 70 Toronado.

Yes I would love to see AMT reverse engineer that Javelin kit, But that is Unlikely at best

Steve, will we get the MPC Fiero, and  the majority of the contemporary AMT Ertl model kits made in the 90s (SN95, 4th gen Camaro, Taurus, Explorer, etc.) reissued at some point? (hopefully the SN95 Cobra)

The 1966-69 Falcon would make a great selling reissue!

We've got the '69 Falcon Modified Stocker coming back real soon, as far I know all the gates are open up on it.  I don't see a way to convert it back to stock.  We could clone one of the long-gone Falcon 3n1 kits but which one, and where would that sit on list of everything else we could retool?
