Straightliner59 Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I discovered a tin of Humbrol Metal Cote Polished Steel, in my paint drawer. It's the closest thing, performance-wise, I have found to Testors discontinued product. It brushed on, very nicely and dried quickly. In researching the line, I found that they also have it in aerosols. The only thing I used it on was the tiny hex nuts on these thermocouples. I'll be buying more, for sure. If I can get it, locally, I'll try out the spray, too... 2
Jonathan Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 Thank you for this. I miss the old Testors Metallizers This looks nice.

stitchdup Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I think the humbrol metalisers have been discontinued also, my local record shop has the full humbro/airfixl range and they have been trying for over a year to get me some more.
atomicholiday Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 Another option would be Vallejo Metal Color. Great stuff. I use it all the time.
bobss396 Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 Not long ago, I scored a few cans of MM 1453 and 1454 spray metalizers at hobby shops. So I'm set for a while. I see them going for sick $$ on eBay. 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 So...does this stuff work like the "buffing" metalizer, or is it like the "non buffing" stuff? A while back I bought every bottle and can of the "buffing" colors I could get just before the prices went crazy, but it would be nice to know there's an equivalent replacement.
stitchdup Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 the steel and polished aluminium are the onlu ones that buff, the rest are matt finish. 1

I didn't realize that. I just did a quick search and found quite a few available for sale. They're still cheaper than Testors. Get 'em while you can!?
Shark Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 I haven't tried them yet, but Model Car World has some metal colors, even a tinted gold for carburetors.
Trendsetta68 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 'Cmon Model Masters...just bring it back already... ???
bobss396 Posted March 14, 2024 Posted March 14, 2024 Probably some shiny paint with a matte clear over it may work to an extent. I'm not sure that Testors Dullcote is still made.

No, there are several other buffing metalizers, including Magnesium, Titanium, Gunmetal, Dark Anodic Gray, Burnt Metal, and Exhaust. More than half the Metalizer line was buffable. Bugatti Fan Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 The Humbrol versions were good paints, but sadly discontinued. The Mr Hobby ones however are good but stink to high heaven!T I think that there are sets of metallic paints that may buff to a shine available for the fantasy war gaming fraternity. Also I think that art suppliers have tube metallic products like Rub n Buff that might be worth a look. 1
