Racersonly Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 Clear coated mostly white kit has yellowed…….Many of you guys have seen and tried it all. Is there a fix?
mr moto Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Did you clear it with enamel? It's notorious for yellowing. In any case, I would clear it with something different this time.

bobss396 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 With pure white, I like to polish it out and leave it at that. I have some I did with white auto paint and used clear lacquer over that. Those finishes have stayed white and have not yellowed.

I have many builds that were finished in white and cleared with lacquer. No yellowing issues whatsoever. Steve 1
oldcarfan Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 The Testor's clear enamel always yellows over time. Duplicolor automotive clear seems to stay clear, but I don't know if it works over every paint type. 1
bobss396 Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 I have a completed model, painted white (Tamiya spray) and foiled. I had it stored in a kit box, wrapped in some paper towels... well, I opened it up and the body had had a reaction with the plain white paper towels. I will have to at least do the foil over.
oldcarfan Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 No idea if it works, but someone told me once that those Magic Erasers can remove the yellow from clear coat. You have to treat it like a very fine sand paper and work it wet.

I’m no expert, but it would be my guess that most yellowing that occurs with clear coat occurs all the way through the clear. As an example, Testors clear enamel comes right out of the spray can yellow, so there’s no way that some sanding, or polishing, or whatever, is going to fix it. Steve
