Dan Hay Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 (edited) Finished this up today. Dang this kit went together hard. Nothing seemed to fit, but I won in the end. Mostly box stock with wheels and tires from the Barris 65 Riviera, lake pipes from the Revell 49 Merc. Paint was inspired by Jim Doss’ 58 Chevy painted by Larry Watson. Tamiya purple and light Pearl blue covered in Tamiya clear. Then colorsanded with 3000 then polished with 3M Perfect-it 3 stage compound and polish. Lots of chrome trim removed if you know what a 58 Impala looks like. Thanks for looking! Edited November 21, 2023 by Dan Hay 8
gman Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 About the only word I can conjure for this build is "impressive." Beautiful job. 1
ea0863 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Very tastefully done Dan. Great job! Did the kit come with opening doors, or was that more of your magic? 1

The kit came with opening doors. They were a real pain. I almost glued them shut. I had to shave about 1/8” off both armrests to get the doors to close, and now that they close the drivers door is nearly impossible to open. Too much paint build up in the doorjamb I guess. Thanks for the kind words!
Yeah Nah Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Nice job Dan. That paint is something else! 1
XYHARRY Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Classic custom there Dan, the colours look great. Cheers, David. ?? 1
NOBLNG Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Beautiful work.? Love the paint job and chrome trim removal. I have a couple of these and have been putting them off because I’ve never built one with opening doors.? 1
ncbuckeye67 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Wow ! If I saw that on a contest table, I would take my stuff back to the car. Magazine cover material! 1
TransAmMike Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Beautiful old school custom. Man that paint job is slick!! Great job Dan? 1
happy grumpy Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Turned out really nice. Great paint job. 1
espo Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Beautiful looking paint treatment and finish. The chrome trim removal, "shaving", removes a lot of trim clutter that detracted from the body lines on these Impalas. Like the interior and the stance. 1
AMT68 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Stunning paint work and the Barris wheels are a great match with that body style and paint scheme. 1
karbuildr Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 That's a show winner for sure. Beautiful Kustom, fabulous paint, outstanding creation. Very well done. 1
bogger44 Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 That is a beautiful paint job, as is the whole build. Removing so much of the chrome trim really showcases the great lines on the car. Well done! 1
