LOL….That looked easier than it was. I  have a lot of scrap plastic left over from many failed attempts, I tried left over exhaust pipes, tried heating and bending.080 evergreen rod numerous times, I finally gave up and got one close and pieced it together and puttied the seams. Now I just hope it’s in the right place. ??

I’m really not impressed with the Tamiya spray paints. I originally tried their TS 26, Pure white on my Drag on Lady Hornet build, I had trouble and ended up stripping the paint and redoing it. I don’t know why but I thought I would try the Tamiya paint again as it’s much easier than air brushing my tried and true Testors. I shook that can of paint for a half hour, the temp and humidity were good last night, so I shot one light coat, let it flash off and then a heavier coat, the color insisted on pulling away from the edges. I waited an hour and applied the last coat, it’s kinda covered, appears way too thin. The gray primer shows through and the fuel tank was not primered still appears yellowed plastic. I have bubbles on the cowl, this is usually a sigh of too heavy paint application.  I’m on the fence with where to go on this, leave it and work with it, sand it and try another coat, or “purple pond “

I've had the same issue (sometimes) with Tamiya white , got the best results with Tamiya light gray primer and then light coat-flash-light coat --then dehydrator for 4-6 hours ,then hit it again . On other stuff that I need white I use Vallejo white primer then hit that with either Tamiya flat, semi gloss or gloss clear ,I usually use this method for white interiors,,,headers and stuff

I was gonna say I've used solder in situations like that,,,just depends on how critical the diameter needs to be ,,I do a lot of solder headers

Man Scott, I didn’t even think about solder……

Your  DOL Plymouth is beautiful!
I don’t have a dehydrator what does that calculate into real time?

Hi Roger, good to see you back at it!  I've had similar problems with the Tamiya white before.   Ran into it on my Grumpys Vega.   I still use Tamiya spray primers (white, gray, pink) but now use MCW enamels for most of my builds.  Not as convienient, but having nice results.

Thanks Roger......yeah ,,I have 3 different diameter rolls of solder and some real small stuff for electronics . No dehydrator I would wait a good few days ,,,,I picked up a cheap Chinesium dehydrator on Amazon,,, I use it all the time especially with the Revell Chrome Spray now ,, I use a lot of MCW enamel too so that shortens up the wait time substantially,,,, I'll shoot color and then the clear the next day

Thanks Terry, I still undecided on the chassis, but I’ve got some Classic White, Model Master I’ll use on the body.

Great info Scott, I can tell you have a little time on your hands, lol, that Lenco trans made everyone a good driver. I’m trying to stay in the 72 rules and utilize the 4 speed. Huge changes in Pro Stock in 73. Wish you had a shot of the rear suspension.

So as your all probably aware I recently moved back to Georgia, I’m still unpacking and while unpacking a box of old magazines I started fanning through some and I came across this article from the December 1972 issue of Super Stock. It answers most of the questions I had on this build and I have some things just plan wrong. At this point I’m just going forward with what I’ve started. Interesting enough is this has to be one of the first four link rear suspension setups. They don’t even call it a four link, it’s referred to as Adjustable  Trailing Link Bars. Since I was not happy with the white paint on the chassis I now know the real car chassis was black. It also states the front retained the torsion bars. I did have the rack and pinion steering correct though.

Everybody pretty much had their own way of chassis setup ,,,, nothing cookie cutter back then!  I woulda thought fer sure they ran coil overs with the way that thing squatted down in front! ..................................................Found this pic of an early Stepp B029 car May be an image of text

Thanks for posting that article! It's always a bummer, when you find reference that shows you that all the reference you thought you had, was erroneous. That's what I'd do, at this point in a project--just go with it. It all looks great!

Thanks Daniel, it is what it is!  I’m going with what I have. I hope to complete it for the ACME show, not enough time to redo it .

Thanks James, pretty much painting weather mall the time here, strange as it seems the dirt in paint is less of an issue here also.

I taped off the red stripes and shot them with Tamiya TS39, Mica Red. I have some overspray to clean up, shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll shoot the purple in a day or so.
