Be wary of inline fans, as paint solvents are often flammable and presence pf a spark from a motor may result on rapid oxidation. flames or explosion risk

Marine bilge exhaust fans tend to be less expensive than those sold for paint booths. The marine versions are made to handle fuel vapors and are more than adequate for our hobby.

My first spray booth, back in the middle of last century, was a cardboard box on my bed. I did spread newspapers around the box to protect the bed-cover. Also taped a piece of paper over the top of the box to drop down as a cover when I finished painting.  Mom kept a close eye on me to make sure I didn't paint the bed-covers.

Nice DIY booth.

Just a reminder...most dust or FOD in a paint job done in a booth comes from the painter's clothes or stuff that's dislodged from the booth itself.

Blowing out the booth with the exhaust fan(s) running, and blowing your clothes off prior to painting...on real cars as well as models...is important.

Keeping the area in the vicinity clean helps too, as dust dislodged by movement near the booth is easily sucked in to it by the fans, and it, of course, can land on the model.

Started with a cardboard box too, last year

I needed to shoot something quick earlier in the year, it was raining out. I put a cardboard box on the kitchen garbage can, 1 side and the top open. It worked in a pinch.

One guy who lived close to me, he did a cardboard box set into the open window where he rented. Just 4 sides and it worked. It stuck out enough so paint wouldn't get on the house.

Another guy, also in an apartment had a cardboard box one, put together with just duct tape. That had a fan and an apartment type clothes dryer vent/trap on it. He used it at his kitchen table.
