CaddyDaddy Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 My modeling shop is down in the basement, with it’s inherent hard concrete floor. I can’t count the number of times that I dropped a small part (or had it shoot off the tweezers) resulting in wasted “search” time, or ultimately, a permanently lost piece. So, what to do? I ran down to Home Depot and bought a piece of BLACK indoor/outdoor carpet (not the “grassy” type, but the one where the material is more like thick felt). I placed it under the bench and a couple of feet out where when sitting on my work stool, I’m surrounded by it. This helps two ways: first, white styrene or small metallic parts easily show up on the black background. Lastly, the carpet acts as a cushion so the piece will not bounce or roll away. 5
bobss396 Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 Good idea. My basement building area has a tile floor. Drop something and it could wind up on the moon. Now I build at my dining room table. Even those parts can bounce off my foot and be lost forever.
