CaddyDaddy
Which kit out there has a really nice Pontiac engine? I need one for a modified stock car I'm thinking about. Ideal would be with injectors and a water pump. Absent that, single 4 barrel might do. Thanks in advance!
StevenGuthmiller
The Revell ‘66 GTO has a pretty nice engine. The AMT ‘62 Catalina and Moebius ‘61 Pontiac kits are also nice depending upon the era that you’re looking for. The GTO and Moebius kits have tri-power intakes, and the AMT Catalina a dual quad, but of course you can modify the intake as you see fit. I used the ‘66 GTO engine with a single 4 barrel intake for my ‘64 Bonneville, and the ‘62 Catalina engine with the tri-power from the GTO for my ‘64 Grand Prix. Mind you, neither of the engines shown are straight out of the box. Both have had numerous modifications performed. Fat Brian
To add to Steve's comment, the Revell 68 Firebird is coming back with its single 4 barrel intake.
Bills72sj
I just finished 4 Pontiac motors. All were configured to be 421 Tri-Power. 65 Bonneville, 65 2+2 (Same engine molds) 1965 Grand Prix and a Revell Parts pack in chrome with bell housing but no transmission. Note: I did not detail them as extensively as Steve did.
Classicgas
If you want to be different, the MPC/AMT 69 Firebird has a nice OHC6.
espo
Consider Round 2's reissue of the old AMT engine kits. The one with both the 283 Chevy engine and a 421 Pontiac in it. The engines in these kits have multi part engine blocks and internals. The Pontiac engine includes the option of both duel four-barrel carburetors, GMC 6-71 Supercharger with offset carburetors or fuel injection stacks for the blower. bobss396
I have used the '62 AMT 421 in a couple of builds.
W Humble
Remember that PMD changed the valve-cover design and engine paint in '66, if I'm not mistaken! Also, there are a lot of versions of the first Pontiac blue; the 1/1 touchup rattle can from Ames Automotive, PMD specialists, is somewhat greener than what I'd been using, the lighter, sky blue. Not that we ever see them, but the 1955-58 (I think) 286-370 engines were greenish, with a touch of gray. The '62 AMT Bonneville kit has a 2x4 intake, also, though not accurate to the 'bathtub' plenum 421 item. It resin-copies fairly well. Wick Bob S.: "No man is an island -- he's a peninsula!" W Humble
Steve, Thanks for the detailed paint rundown; I don't set up to be an authority! There were lots of changes, and the Chevy orange is a new one on me! I only build the 1960-65 car kits, so will never need the others -- most of my 'collection' is just kits I bought in high school, or replacements later on. :-<) I have a Pontiac that has a stock, unpainted (raw metal) block and heads; wanna' guess what it its? Farmboy
The 8 velocity stacks were just an air intake 'hat' over a single carb. Both engines are from amt's Pontiac Catalinas. A bit of modification was necessary for this build but I found the stock blocks to be very nice pieces.
