junkyardjeff Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 I built this to look like someone home made a larger truck out of a pickup and would like some ideas on gas tanks,it's built on a modified car frame that is probably wider then the normal big truck frames of the era and would like dual tanks. I picked up a demi tank but is too large.
Can-Con Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 Maybe tanks from one of the 1/32 scale snap kit semis?
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 (edited) Round tanks aft of the running boards made from 1/2" Plastruct tube, PVC, or even old ballpoint ben barrels. Edited January 20, 2024 by Ace-Garageguy
Michael F Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 (edited) Jeff, i really love your tractor and i´m looking forward for the finished thing ? I made the fueltank for my Carsini wineries truck from PVC tube. Diameter is 16 millimeters or 0,629921 inches. I got it at a homeimprovement store, its a protective tube for power cables. Cutted it in length i needed and glued plastic sheet on both sides. Added a filler tube and retaining straps from styrene. Some sanding and painting - ready. Edited January 20, 2024 by Michael F 3
Muncie Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 (edited) maybe rectangular tanks... rectangular tanks will give you more fuel capacity in short rail space. maybe remove the cab step and use a fuel tank with a step under the cab... will give you more rail space to work with and better weight distribution for a truck tractor. . Try to maintain maximum ground clearance. it gets critical at the center of the wheelbase going into steep parking lot driveways. Edited January 20, 2024 by Muncie 1
Fat Brian Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 The tanks in the Ford Louisville truck are smaller than true semi tanks and might work for you. 1
1930fordpickup Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 The small orange pill bottles might work. The smallest they ever give out. As mentioned just cap with styrene. Maybe roll some thin plastic around a roll of penniess or dimes and glue the seem. 1
Little Timmy Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 I know some older pick-ups had the tank behind the seats, at the rear of the cab . Just put a fill spout next to the driver's door. 1
junkyardjeff Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 I could put a cap on the outside of the cab where it looks like it has a tank under the seat where I think the 42 to 47 trucks did.
JollySipper Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 I've seen some cool rat-rod tanks made from Bic lighters. Just cap both ends, and you could use a wheel knock-off as a filler......
junkyardjeff Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 I have a pair of 1/32 semi snap together tanks but a little too cheesy and not sure if I can improve them.

Goose1957 Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Drop tanks/belly tanks from aircrraft kits. Jeff

junkyardjeff Posted January 28, 2024 Author Posted January 28, 2024 The beer keg tank from the Monogram beer wagon works perfectly,I have one and need to find another.
Nosferatu Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 I'm not sure what shape tanks you are looking for but I have used regular and small BIC lighters (they need to have any pressure removed from inside) and PVC pipe or copper pipe. The PVC or copper have open ends but you can use some old simple hubcaps for the ends. Dave
stavanzer Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Monogram 1/48 Scale B-29 has an oval tank that fits in the Bomb Bay. Perfect size for car/ truck use.
