Duddly01
While I am semi-patiently waiting on paint and supplies for my 1966 Mustang Coupe build I decided to dig out my Revell 2018 Mustang Snap kit to attempt to make it into a respectable copy of our 2018 Mustang Convertible. I also purchased a die-cast model to get some detail parts that are missing from the snap kit, like missing rear view mirrors and bad headlights. This will be build 5/5 of our currently owned Mustang. I cut the top and made it into a convertible, but now to continue I would need to order supplies and paint for this kit as well. Duddly01
Just etched door and hood gaps, removed mold flashing, created trunk wing and epoxy filled rear.

Duddly01
Finally finished the 1966 Mustang Coupe build so getting back to the 2018 Mustang Convertible. I disassembled the Motor Max die-cast for parts. Sadly it had to give its life so the convertible could live it’s best life. This is all that is left of the diecast car for parts. the disk brakes from the diecast fit very nicely behind the kits wheels. the clear red taillight lens panel from the diecast needed a bit of work but looks so much better than the one from the snap kit. the clear lenses fit nicely and are such an improvement over the silver ones from the kit. The rear view mirror just needed a bit of work to fit well. White glue fitted. I will have to scratch build the insides of the headlights. With the diecast taillight and headlight lenses I should be able to run LEDs. I will be cutting open the hood vents and using the inserts from the diecast. oddly the kit dash looked best, but the seats of the diecast are much nicer. Going to cut up both tubs to make a decent interior to work with. This is going to end up a curbside with no engine or chassis detail but I am hoping to get a thr interior and body looking as nice as possible.

Duddly01
Cut out the seats and floor from the kit interior. Bonded in the rear seat from the diecast car and created a floor from styrene. Now more of a proper model kit tub with decent seat detail.Cleaned up the diecast lower seats to fit. Now they work more like a nice seat component I can fit into the tub after the carpet flocking. Still need to figure out fitting the diecast door panels into the tub. The snap kit has almost no door panel detail.
TransAmMike
Impressive work Donald, coming along nicely. My Daughter has a Shadow Black '18 EcoBoost Coupe. Fun car to drive.

Fun car to drive. Thank you. My son is 15 and wants a newer Mustang himself for his first car, but it has to be blue. ? I may have another family Mustang to build in the next year.
Funkychiken
The die cast done kit bits are soon much better than the original kit. You're doing an amazing job at stitching them together!
Duddly01
Pretty close to finishing up the interior fabrication and modifications. Stiched in the door panels and created the convertible specific rear panels. Cut open the chassis for the LED battery and drilled for the switch. rear convertible side panels. Image of rear panels from my real car. Still need to make the remainder of the LED battery enclosure

PhilipLeblanc
Are you trying to rebuild your real car? Nice idea. Another idea, have you thought of adding some lights to it?

You can see three of those builds linked in my signature.
PhilipLeblanc
I love the color, although it's not a typical choice for this classy car model.
Duddly01
It is going to end up in 2018 Mustang “magnetic” like my real car. Once I get all of the fabrication and mod work done. interior Fab is close to done, body has a lot of work still needed. I did cut in the hood vents and fit the vents from the diecast. Also cut the front parking light openings for fiber optics. Moving a bit slow at the moment.
PhilipLeblanc
It's a nice idea to have a mini car of your real car. I wonder how do you do the car seats? Do they just remain plastic

Buffing flat black usually does a decent job.
PhilipLeblanc
I'd really appreciate it if you could make a detailed post on how you make seats. I tried it once and just screwed the work.

Filling in the backs, sanding and Painting is all I will be doing for these. Not doing anything special in this case.
PhilipLeblanc
That seems easy. Well, when I do something, I always struggle to do the interior. I love it when everything looks so detailed. But I struggle to make everything so realistic. I always screw the interior.
Duddly01
It had been a couple of weeks since I was able to do any work on this model, but finally got some time in today. Finished up the fabrication and mods for the body. Created the inner headlights. Cut out the taillights, marker lights and dash gauges and display in preparation for LEDs. created the exhaust tips from aluminum tubing. using surgical tape to give the exposed convertible a good representation of the top texture. I couldn’t stand the toy like metallic orange molded plastic anymore so glad to have gotten a coat of primer on the body ready for sanding a filling blemishes. Can’t wait to see it in J7 Magnetic Metallic. I picked up a bottle of touch up paint for airbrushing to get a correct match for my real car. PhilipLeblanc
Nice stand for painting. I just use my wife's old cake stand and some film. It's easy to spin the car in any direction while spraying the paint.
