Cale Yarborough 1983 Daytona Winning Pontiac

Salvinos kit/decals. The hood had an AWFUL warp in it so I had to do my best to straighten it back out. Don’t know if anyone else has had that issue with these kits. The back two plug wires on each side run behind and under the heat shields. I just ran the others over the top to have something to look at. 
 

I’ve always loved the story of him winning the 500 in what was, at that time, a show car. Great looking livery to boot.

Looking good, nicely done. The story with the winning car, he wrecked the main car and the backup car too. What to do? Across the street from the track is the Volusia County Mall, they always have show cars inside the mall on display for Speed Week. The team grabs the Pontiac, goes back to the garage and combines all 3 cars into what was the winning car that year.

Very fine build. I agree with you about the story about after he wrecked his probably dominate Monte Carlo. Just goes to show, Cale could win in anything.

Great job on this! Thank you for posting it. The 1:1 is one of my favorite race cars. Like @bobss396 alluded to, the story behind Cale's win is part of Daytona 500 history. RIP Cale
