Sportabout Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 (edited) In 1964 Impala Super Sports have had the 230 6-cylinder standard engine, but most were equipped with V8 engine. I think Impala is more of a cruiser than a muscle car, so I also wanted power steering and AC. Such chevy 6 cylinder engines are not for sale separately or in any kits, so I decided to take the engine from the Pacer kit. What's more refreshing than putting an AMC engine in a Chevrolet ? Body is primered but color is not decided yet. Engine compartment is waiting inline 6 Chassis is assembled and painted. AMC 258 Edited February 29, 2024 by Sportabout 2
NOBLNG Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 Nice start on this one Kari. Funny that the Super Sports would still have a 6 cyl as standard. 1
bobss396 Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 The AMT '60 Chevy truck kit has a real nice 6 in it.... 1
DoctorLarry Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 There is a great resin six cylinder on EBAY https://www.ebay.com/itm/134506785863?itmmeta=01HQX8ZSNDTQWRY0EFZVE6K4MK&hash=item1f513aac47:g:iAwAAOSweHhkIH11&itmprp=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4N%2BUDFfq4oD1Czm%2FpaomEhJRerYMB%2FkjtaZU5shpXjNyBYTTt6LGSNs3xvk%2FbHBeFgrEynZSzkKVN%2BN%2BQfNbkLeaY8LE2P0ynrNyTc7y%2BtNxZc3Y2%2FXdxOAffa3V4xzzSFyQoVBmf6frNZTKAonc%2BYk16A2BpVrNr%2BXCF%2B5OKYlQh%2B9FMSyKuWKNceEulfDcbuHe2AdwdD2hWMM7ohekWh3sc4MatFqEn3S3a0PenYGzjve1ntMx5WGTI9NJR8ZckesTOMz4JsYbtcCMZiCjcTOZ%2BxnC4M0Yg5zilZoNYxnW|tkp%3ABFBM8Jr_qL9j 1
FoMoCo66 Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 Texas 3D Customs is awesome. I've never bought one of there engine's but I've heard good things about them. 1
Sportabout Posted March 1, 2024 Author Posted March 1, 2024 Those GM engines don't meet my requirements because they lack power steering and AC. And Texas 3D Customs engine is way too expensive to send to overseas, $63 with shipping and tax ☹️ Luckily The AMC 258 fits quite well in the engine compartment. 1

I have to add to that i have got about 6 or 7 from him and also 5 or6 from Iceman both have awesome quality and great detail. 2
Kenmojr Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 Love the weathering effects on the frame, should be a very cool ride.
Sportabout Posted March 7, 2024 Author Posted March 7, 2024 The engine and fuel lines are in place. Next I will install the AC hoses and the heater hoses. The exhaust pipe of the kit fit as is, but the driveshaft had to be modified. Radiator wall and radiator have been painted, fitted and waiting for installation. 1
ewetwo Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 In my youth a friend had a 1965 Impala with the 250 six in it. Nice car. 1
Sportabout Posted March 11, 2024 Author Posted March 11, 2024 The heater hoses have been installed and it wasn't an easy job. It's probably better to install the radiator wall and radiator hoses with the frame on. The interior is also almost ready, although I lost the shifter and had to make a new one. The trunk has been flocked and changed to be more original. The color of the body will be Tamiya X-7, painted and finished barn find style. 1
Sportabout Posted March 19, 2024 Author Posted March 19, 2024 The body is now painted and it turned out pretty well. When it has dried properly, I polish it lightly and add some weathering. 3
Sportabout Posted May 22, 2024 Author Posted May 22, 2024 The body has been painted and weathered. The clear coat is Future + X21 matte and the foiling is bare metal matte Aluminum foil. The engine room is almost ready and a few body parts still need to be installed. This kit had heater only originally, so I added with aftermarket air conditioning like people can do with real Impala. 3
