So I was at Hobby Lobby last week and they had a sign up that said 40% off all plastic kits. Well I couldn’t turn that down so after getting my mothers, I mean my wife’s approval, I bought these with the intent of trying my hand at my first kit bashing project. The 55 Chevy from Two Lane Blacktop. 55 Chevy for the body. 40 Willys for the tires and suspension and the Chevelle for the tunnel ram intake.

Sanded the side trim off of the rear quarter panels and doors and cut off the front end. I got a feeling this is going to take a while. 7D81CE05-7565-462D-8256-A27EC2E86C67.thumb.jpeg.746d890e00c0fd529f87907a3e78a13f.jpeg98A8328A-B4F9-48A3-B2E6-3259D5DBBA4F.thumb.jpeg.7e9703fa1574f7c1236e831fc74232bf.jpeg

I love this project. Your doing it right! If you don't mind me sharing I built a 2 lane blacktop car as well. I used the old revell 55 chevy. I know it's a hard top but I at least added a b pillar . Besides the body being incorrect, it was my first time kit bashing as well.

i will remove if im interrupting.

A few shots for reference. I’m pretty sure most here are familiar with the movie but I thought I’d put up a few pictures to set the mood.

Nice. Looks good to me. Remove?  No way. Post em if you got em.

Great to see another one being built.

Seeing the body in two halves reminds me of what I spent 25+ years looking at before I finally got on and finished it:

1:24 Monogram 1955 Chevy kit

You've made a better start than me by using the AMT kit, I just went with a Monogram that was readily available here in the UK.

1:24 Monogram 1955 Chevy kit

Finished result. Not particularly authentic - when I started it I was relying on paused images off my recorded-from-TV video!

Haven’t seen this movie in years, gonna have to watch it now!! Love what you’ve done so far. I’ll be curious to see what you do about the firewall area.

Built up the firewall with styrene sheet and opened up the rear quarter wheel openings. Also removed the vent window frames on the doors and glued the hood to the fenders and removed the inner fenders. Still have to putty and sand the firewall and give the rear wheel openings a little lip.

Looks good. Looking forward for more.

This was a video that I watched for amazing inspiration. He built a pretty good replica.

That’s got to be the best one I’ve seen yet. He really nailed it.

Rear trunk opened up.
Man, I’ve always admired you guys that kit bash and scratch build but this is giving me a whole new dose of respect for you guys. Sounds so much easier than it is.

I just hope I can do this build justice.
