nickfzr61 Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 (edited) So I was at Hobby Lobby last week and they had a sign up that said 40% off all plastic kits. Well I couldn’t turn that down so after getting my mothers, I mean my wife’s approval, I bought these with the intent of trying my hand at my first kit bashing project. The 55 Chevy from Two Lane Blacktop. 55 Chevy for the body. 40 Willys for the tires and suspension and the Chevelle for the tunnel ram intake. Edited March 2, 2024 by nickfzr61 2
Nitro330 Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 A very cool 55. I've always thought about doing one. Will enjoy following this.
LennyB Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 Sounds like a hot combination...especially since it's sitting on the stove. ?
nickfzr61 Posted March 2, 2024 Author Posted March 2, 2024 (edited) Sanded the side trim off of the rear quarter panels and doors and cut off the front end. I got a feeling this is going to take a while. Edited March 2, 2024 by nickfzr61 2
Bills72sj Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 Enjoy the kit bash! I have taken kit bashing to nearly everything I build.
FoMoCo66 Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 (edited) I love this project. Your doing it right! If you don't mind me sharing I built a 2 lane blacktop car as well. I used the old revell 55 chevy. I know it's a hard top but I at least added a b pillar . Besides the body being incorrect, it was my first time kit bashing as well. i will remove if im interrupting. nickfzr61 Posted March 2, 2024 Author Posted March 2, 2024 A few shots for reference. I’m pretty sure most here are familiar with the movie but I thought I’d put up a few pictures to set the mood. 3

No way. Post em if you got em.
dodgefever Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 Coincidentally, I'm building one as well, but I'll start another thread for that.
Spottedlaurel Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 Great to see another one being built. Seeing the body in two halves reminds me of what I spent 25+ years looking at before I finally got on and finished it: You've made a better start than me by using the AMT kit, I just went with a Monogram that was readily available here in the UK. Finished result. Not particularly authentic - when I started it I was relying on paused images off my recorded-from-TV video! 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 Very Cool! Make sure you check the jets quite often during your build.
Keef Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Haven’t seen this movie in years, gonna have to watch it now!! Love what you’ve done so far. I’ll be curious to see what you do about the firewall area.
nickfzr61 Posted March 4, 2024 Author Posted March 4, 2024 Built up the firewall with styrene sheet and opened up the rear quarter wheel openings. Also removed the vent window frames on the doors and glued the hood to the fenders and removed the inner fenders. Still have to putty and sand the firewall and give the rear wheel openings a little lip. 4
FoMoCo66 Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 (edited) Looks good. Looking forward for more. This was a video that I watched for amazing inspiration. He built a pretty good replica. Edited March 4, 2024 by FoMoCo66 Didn't read well. 3

nickfzr61 Posted March 4, 2024 Author Posted March 4, 2024 (edited) Rear trunk opened up. Man, I’ve always admired you guys that kit bash and scratch build but this is giving me a whole new dose of respect for you guys. Sounds so much easier than it is. I just hope I can do this build justice. Edited March 4, 2024 by nickfzr61 1
