JoHan 1963 1/2 Plymouth Fury

Trying to make headway on the interior and it's been one step forward........

So, I'm using the interior from the '64 Lindberg Fury and I found this pic on the net for inspiration.40539700_2039209706103373_590383146491445248_n.jpg.8e589f8f76b900b5fb8f191c5fb006ee.jpg

So I've taken the door panels and removed the sanded off the top detailing, while leaving the lower alone, and with some .02" half round created some new trim.DSC00159.JPG.d537f0f1870e3461f5b259355318414a.JPG

In the process I found my Fury kit only had one bucket seat so I went up into the attic and dug a set of bench seats from a Lindberg Dodge 330 kit. Happy accident in a way as I think the bench fits the style of the build better. And who cares if we have a Plymouth interior with Dodge seats. I'm sure Mrs. Petty won't mind as long as they are comfortable.

My original intention was to do a black and white interior but I switched gears and decided on red and white. So a step backwards with a paint strip and then forward again.

Getting close to having a complete interior but as I was getting ready to install the arm rests I discovered that they made innies and outties. In my case the door panels had nipples and the arm rests had nipples, that wasn't going to work. Another trip to the attic and all I could come up with is armrests with nipples. So right now I'm waiting for the paint to dry on some arm rests I made from scrap sprue.

And a little plastic surgery on the door cards waiting for the arm rests to arrive.

So while we wait on that it's off to work on the chassis. DSC00207.JPG.e564bb330b69ac3ca25cc736c4384e2f.JPG

Hopefully we keep moving forward after this.☺️

Nipples Lenny?  Nipples?

Nice work on the door cards so far...I like nipples, ?....I say leave 'em

Too late Jim, they are rolling around on the floor somewhere. If I can find them I'll send them your way. Supposed to be cold tonight so that might make it easier.?

Where did you find the .020” half round Len? The smallest I can find is .030”.?

Sorry, my bad. it was .030 half round. Can't find half round in a smaller size, I had that issue with my Fairlane.

Fundamentally the parts I am using from the '64 Lindberg kit I'm building OOB. For the most parts things are going together nicely. The chassis has nice detailing and most things fit well. Somehow they completely missed the boat with the wheel fitment. The stubs that the wheels mount to are much smaller then the holes in the wheels. And why couldn't they put some detail on the so called 'BRAKE PLATES'. Another issue is the interior sides, they are too short front to rear so they don't fit nicely into the tub. Otherwise I like what I see and will probably use the same bits for another build.

Making some progress as the interior is coming together, still have a few minor bits to do but it's getting there. The interior is 90% Lindberg and 10% Johan. The dash and steering wheel are Johan. The seats are from a Lindberg '64 Dodge 330 and the rest is the '64 Lindberg Plymouth for those of you keeping score.

Got the reliable old slant six into the chassis and it's feeling at home. Don't know why the intakes look green in this shot, but they are different shades of gray.

And a good portion of the chassis is together. Still a few bits here as well along with some touch up work.

DSC00228.jpg.40070f9e20468bf7358fbbc4be1ac63b.jpg

But then trouble arose when trying to build the engine compartment and attache the six banger to the radiator. The radiator hoses don't line up with the holes in the radiator. Dug out a few more of these kits and not one of them had a radiator suited for the six cylinder. What's the deal with that????

The radiator had holes in the top right and lower left. The six needed holes top center and lower right. Had to take the radiator back out, plug 2 holes and drill 2 new ones. The top center hole is right below the radiator cap which is not a proper spot for it so I guess I need to move the cap as well. Have to research where it belongs.DSC00229.jpg.c4ed6bb8b960e46f650d79e99301e0b5.jpg

I mocked everything up to get a feel for the old girl. I originally was thinking about red-lines with poverty caps. Trying to scrounge up four red-lines I came across and envelope marked 1957 Plymouth. My old man loves these wheel covers for some reason. He had them on the '57 Dodge, '66 Fury wagon, even put them on my brother's '71 Valiant. And right at this moment I'm sure they are hanging out in his garage. So I put on some whitewalls and the '57 covers for a look-see. WDYT? They still need a black wash.

Not sure if I like them or not. Might have to wait until I get color on the body. Which is going to be black BTW.

Now it's time for a break or should I say brake???? Has anyone else noticed how many people on the internet and especially fleabay use the work break when referring to car brakes. Drives me nuts.? Do you really want to buy from someone who sells "break parts" ?

Thanks for listening, catch ya next time.

Been making some small progress on the Fury. When doing a mockup I noticed a huge gap on the inner fender. It appears that Lindberg left part of the inner fender attached to the body. So we will have to steal that for our Fury.

It fits right in place with little modification. Only issue is I had to make the hood bumpers higher to get the hood to sit level. Apparently the plastic on vintage kits is thicker then the new ones, just like the real thing.?

Now we are off to wet sand the body and hope we get some warmer weather so I can actually lay down some paint.?

This is another one of my projects that I decided to try something new with the Createx Wicked Colors. This is more successful so far then my 68 Fairlane. ? Finish comes out satin and still needs a shot of clear. But now that the paint is on I found two obvious sink marks in the trunk lid I didn't see before. At first I thought I could ignore them but I think I will address them now otherwise I may never forgive myself. ? Hopefully I can just mask off the trunk, fix the sink marks and get away with respraying just that area. ??

Finally getting ahead of the clear-coat. Gave me a hard time as I explained on my 41 Plymouth build so I won't get into that here. In a nutshell the paint is Tamiya primer, followed by a coat of Createx Opaque Black topped off with some Wicked Black (semi-opaque) and finished with some automotive 2K clear from Kirker. Initially the hood came out loaded with fish-eyes. ?

DSC00322.jpg.8d6bae93df981dda63f7830616fd81ca.jpg

After some wet sanding a couple more coats of 2K I think we got it resolved.

Still have some wet sanding to do and a final polish. I want to tone the shine down a bit anyway.

I'm not sure why the hood looks so dusty in the last shot, maybe I need to clean the camera lens.?DSC00326.jpg.fa75d66e9c2322a47cf8d285c6bf4240.jpg

Thanks for dropping by.

If I got that many fish eyes, Len, I'd be headed for the bait shop. That looks like a serious incompatibility issue or surface contamination.  This is why I don't look forward to painting ?.  I'm never sure of what's going to happen. Looks like you got it locked, though.
