Aoshima DeLorean

Decal or decals?    I'm sure they used to be named Waterslide Transfers.

That doesn't change the question some are asking;  What is included?  Waterslide Transfers, or Waterslide Transfer?

And I think we can take from the pics above encompassing wheel emblems, dash gauges, and a license plate from the BTTF version (not to mention a history of reasonably comprehensive decal sheets from Aoshima) that the DMC12 version will have decalS too.

??

Terminology Pete.

Not sure why this was such a hangup.  As the parts list scan shows, decal (sheet) contains bunch of individual decals on it.  As it has been mentioned, is it a translation issue.

Not a hang up Pete.

Just an observation that waterslide transfers have now come to be described as decals over the years.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

Regardless, the bog standard  De Lorean is a kit that has been on my wish list for years and pleased to see one issued at long last. To be fair, if it were not for the Back To The Future films it would have been just another car that would have faded into oblivion like many others, and never be kitted at all. It was to have been Northern Ireland's premier car manufacturer, but ran at a loss untiI the government eventually had enough and pulled the plug on subsidising it

The factory stock DeLorean is being released this morning (8/19).

Just got mine set to be shipped, cost almost as much as the model.

No Kidding! Sure, when buying directly from Japan the kit prices are really good, but the shipping costs are a killer.  Total price ends up being within few bucks of buying these models Stateside. The only advantage is that you will likely get a newly released model sooner when buying it from Japan.

Not sure how many kits you would have to buy to make shipping costs economical. Also airmail shipping does get expensive when the box size and weight start getting big.

For example, I use Hobby Search in Japan and have been using ECMS shipping (the cheapest trackable option).

Bought 2 kits in standard Japanese kit boxes.  Kits were 8640 Yen, and shipping was 5184 Yen

In another order I bought 5 kits. They arrived in sizable box (again standard size Japanese kit boxes).  Kits were 15360 Yen, and shipping was 8808 Yen. Yes some savings, but not all that much.  The shipping cost is pretty steep.

$17 per kit vs. $12 per kit. If you shipped a single kit USPS Priority from Coast to Coast you're going to pay $14, so $12 from the other side of the world seems reasonable.

I love Hobby Search to look at instructions, but they've never had the best price on kits, or their shipping options. HLJ is cheaper on both, plus you can hoard kits for 60 days (6 months really, they haven't fully rolled back the Covid relaxation of their prior time limit.) which can spread out the cost of 5 kits over 2 months rather than having to make a one time bulk order. Of course that's just an evil plot to not realize how much you're spending...?

I know. I've been a customer of HLJ for probably couple of decades, but few years back after one of their major website redesigns, I didn't like the functionality, so I started buying from Hobby Search.  I guess I have to revisit HLJ, but we still have to support Hobby Search, so they keep on posting scans of the kit's instructions. :) That is super handy!

Anybody remember Rainbow Ten?  I used to order kits from them back when you had to email them your order.  I also had the pleasure of visiting the actual  hobby store in-person. What an amazing place it was!

I want one.

Me too.

Not much of a fan of the real ones, having come to know them very intimately over the years, but always wanted to do a mid-engine one, and so far nobody's come up with the bucks to pay me.

Soooo...LS in the middle of a little one coming up.  :D

I currently have 5 kits waiting to ship, the cheapest shipping option that will get it here within a weeks is $79.xx( EMS) , so that breaks it down to $15.80 per kit, close to the number Duff said.   Shipping one kit via the same method , EMS is $37, so almost half the cost of shipping one.

I have 6 sitting and if you're willing to wait a few days for ECMS (the method Pete mentioned above) it works out to $11.70@ and now we're in USPS Priority shipping at the corporate discount rate (on a single kit basis) for anything West of the Rockies.

I have used the ECMS option early this year I believe, for my 5 kits, its $70.34, which works out to $14.06 per kit, about $2 less than EMS($79.94),  I might give it a try again.
