Of course, they are not alike, as you point out.

But, some scratch building and conversion work could get you close to a Ford-Ferguson.

If by a little conversion work you mean using the front axle components from the Heller kit as molded and modifying/replacing pretty much EVERY other part, absolutely. Almost every individual part would require at least some adjusting.

Relationship between a TO and an N is similar to that time Cherry Motors of China designed a competitor to a GM China product by simply reverse engineering the GM China vehicle. "Different" parts but actually close enough to interchange. 

Aside from the engine (OHV vs L-head) a bunch of parts do interchange between the two, but they're all slightly different. And not all interchange. Not sure if that was to dodge a potential lawsuit from Ford or different suppliers, or maybe a little of both, though. Having owned several N Series tractors and Ferguson TOs, it's something I'm familiar with. I've found quite a bit more internal parts interchangeability than anything... If I remember a hydraulic pump rebuild kit meant for a Ford will work in a Ferguson TO35.

A Ferguson would be a good starting point for a Ford N, but it would probably take way more tedious work than even I would want to put into it, because at the end people are just going to think I put Ford scripts on a Ferguson and the other changes wouldn't even register.

Thank You , for the education, Chuck. I'm more familiar with John Deere tractors than Fords, so I was off base. WE still need some American Tractors.

Don't be too tough on yourself, you weren't too far off base. I mean, you at least acknowledge that there are differences. Seems like a whole lot of people think the Ferguson is a "badge engineered" Ford, and that ain't the case.?

I'll admit I used to be one of those guys before I got more familiar with the Fords. ?

I inherited this book from my Dad, last year when he passed. We talked about the Ford tractors some, as he was searching for a 9N like he drove in High School on the farm.

That is where I learned much about the Fords.

The reason the ford pump rebuild worked on the 35 was ford continued to licence the hydraulic system. There may have been external differences (i only know of a couple of 9n locally and they are both imports but theres a lot more pre war fordsons) but the insides hung around for a good while. The petrol 35s used an engine from the standard vanguard car after the ford engines dried up. incidentally its estimated that between 75 and 90 per cent of the fords and fergies still exist

Rear half of frame is sort of close as is the front suspension. The engine is very different. The grille slats need to be changed. Ford used the same Fergie system for the towing of implements.  It's doable but a lot of work. The hood is a bit different as well.
