bill lanfear Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Hello everyone! This is a truck you would find sitting out on a farm or field. I weathered it pretty heavily to simulate years of sun beating down on it. I am thinking of building a diorama for it. My idea is to have a newer Ford with trailer saving it from the field and loading it up. I have almost completed the trailer and am working on a 73 highboy to complete the scene eventually. I have included pics of the trailer. I will post the work in progress on the 73. The 53 was rusted and weathered using brown undercoat and craft paints with sponging etc. The grill came from another AMT 53 ford kit (it is the correct grill) The seat was completed with tape and strategic slices and stuffing. The frame was slightly warped so I flattened the rear tire a bit to have her sit on all fours evenly. It worked out perfectly as the twist looks like its from the low tire. I stuffed a rag in the gas tank, made some cracks in windows and threw some items in the bed. Hope you like it. Comments are welcome, thanks! LOTS of PICS! 11
Chuck Most Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 If it were a '51 it would pretty much be a duplicate of the one out behind my grandfather's barn. This still has the engine though. ? And instead of a gas can that one had a disassembled aluminum rooftop TV antenna in the back, the bed floor was in about the same shape.
Mike Slapattack Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Very cool, I love the cracked glass and torn seat!
Zippi Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Really nice looking 53 Ford pickup and trailer Bill. That diorama is going to look pretty kewl.
espo Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 The paint, or lack of it, finish looks very realistic. The rotted-out bed floor reminds me of a '56 F100 I bought in the late '60's. The truck was retired by a land scaping business and what was left of the wood bed looked just like this and the tail gate was long gone. Like how the trailer looks like it has sat outside 24/7 which would be normal. All the weathering Q's here look perfect.
1959scudetto Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Good looking F100 - or should I say poor? Anyway, perfect weathering of this trusty old PU - and now off to the body shop for a restoration!
mchook Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Great build! I can't wait to see the diorama with it. Kind of a Newish take on the old Diamond in the rough kit.
leafsprings Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 The look is spot on for those field finds or old wrecking yard finds, great job Bill!
