These are discontinued? You can still get the 99 cent square jar enamels, but they discontinued this line of brilliant paints?

I will never, for the life of me, understand how this industry operates.

Yeah, this has been discussed quite a bit on the forum. The disappearance of Model Master paints, especially the Meatlizers, deals a serious blow to the hobby.

In the paint sector, it goes like this.

Brands like Testors, Floquil, PollyScale, and several others were started as small businesses many years back, aimed directly at the model market, often BY modelers, in a time when businesses worked on the idea that if you make a good product, the money will come, and massive profit wasn't the primary goal.

These smaller entities were absorbed over time by much larger companies, and recently Testors was gobbled up by Rustoleum, the same company that absorbed...and killed...both Floquil and PollyScale, loved by model railroaders.

"In 2013, Testors discontinued the popular Floquil and PollyScale paints that had long been a staple of any model railroader’s workbench."

"Founded in the 1930s by Nils Testor in Rockford, Ill., Testors’ glue and paint products have been a staple of the hobby industry for generations."

Rustoleum is a manufacturer of a confused line of products aimed at the general DIY market, and apparently nobody in management knows or cares enough about the model market to continue producing products that probably contribute only a miniscule profit to their bottom line, so they kill them off...which kinda makes one wonder WHY they bought them in the first place.

But according to Testors management, it's all OUR fault.

"Spokesperson Vince Pierri said that demand for the discontinued brands has been on the decline for a number of reasons including aging demographics, (and) less interest among younger audiences."

(But) "we will continue to support the hobby market with a robust line of aerosols, brush paints, tools and accessories and are always looking for opportunities to innovate in these categories,” he said.

"Innovate"? Really? You already had the only buffing metalizer aerosol product on the market, as "innovative" as it gets, and you kill it.

RustOleum is too busy manufacturing a half dozen different "chrome" spray paints in different brands, all with vacuum metalized caps on the cans that don't come close to resembling what is actually in the cans...
