Karl LaFong Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 (edited) The new AMT ambulance seemed like a natural for this one. The fender antenna hole and roof holes were filled, Evergreen sheet was used to cover the windows. The Monogram '59 Cadillac supplied the wheels/tires and steering wheel, the landau iron is from the Monogram '58 Thunderbird. Paint is Testor's Black enamel, shot through an airbrush. The license plate was downloaded and reduced. If you gotta go, go big! Edited May 12, 2024 by Karl LaFong Deleted one pcture 8
espo Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Great looking build. The paint and body trim are all well done.
Engine 51 Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 You could almost put the coaches we use today into the back of one of those. Reverse the rear doors and you have a side loader. Completely unheard of today.
David G. Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Nicely done! I like the way AMT has been repurposing the Ghostbusters Ecto 1 kit. First the Surf Shark, then the Ambulance, maybe a hearse is next? That would be great! Until then, that's a nice conversion. I'll have to keep an eye out for that T-Bird for the landau bar to use when I get to doing mine. David G.
ncbuckeye67 Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Beautiful build! I love to see conversions done. You can't always build box-stock!
bobss396 Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 In 1975 I came VERY close to buying a 1962 Caddy hearse for $600.... I had my hand on the $$ in my pocket while on the car lot. Bailed at the last second due to family pressure not to buy it. That is a nice build. I need a tow car for a stock car trailer and this may work out. Ideally I would like the Johan ambulance, but they are pretty expensive.
Volzfan59 Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Well done, beautiful hearse. My youngest son and I used to talk about buying an older used 1:1 hearse to build into a hot rod.
Karl LaFong Posted May 14, 2024 Author Posted May 14, 2024 Thanks to all for the kudos! This kit is the way to go if you want a hearse - you could buy 3 AMT ambulances for the cost of one 1966 Johan Cadillac hearse. I didn't go nuts on the interior - it still has the ambulance jump seats, and it should have casket rollers, but these would only be noticeable if you picked the model up and peered in the windows. When I was researching this, I discovered that there were many variations, including body style, body color, and hearse/ambulances. Yes, not all hearses are black!
bobss396 Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 Shiny black paint is tough... a lot of shiny black paint is tougher... nice work.
carrucha Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Nice work on the conversion. I was thinking of doing the same with the reissue ambulance version.
