kelson Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Hello everyone, with warmer weather out it's hard not to think about summer nights and cruisin in a convertible with the top down. That's what's inspired this build,i'm using an old Shawn Carpenter resin convertible,i bought back in 2001. The donor kit The plan was to paint the car Evening Orchid Poly but the color didn't flatter the body lines at all!!.So going with code 983 Goodwood Green which is very close in hue to code JJ Cypress Green metallic. Since the car will 327 powered i robbed the 327 from the 64 Impala,i also have the MCG P/E set as well and some extra parts from the parts box Since the impala has a auto transmission, the plan was to modify the chevelle console but the auto/manual consoles are quite different so i just cut the transmission off a vette engine and mated it to the impala block. That's all the progress so far.? 6
kelson Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 It's been a couple months,i did a group build on Facebook so it took away from this build i had a couple setbacks on that build and this one,car has been painted and clearcoated,i find it easier to clearcoat over the BMF. This back panel gave me nightmares!!,i couldn't get the BMF to stick around the corners, after multiple tries it finally came together. The interior is painted Testors wood and the darker areas are the same color with some Gloss Brown added and a coat of satin varnish. The engine is installed and i used parts from the 64'Impala ,65'Z16,66'Nova and 69'Vette and 70'Z28 ,i had to shorten the driveshaft a little bit,was hoping to finish this by the end of July but not likely. 9
kelson Posted August 12, 2024 Author Posted August 12, 2024 Back with a small update, dashboard completed, drilled out the holes in the steering wheel, i didn't use the steering wheel decal just a light touch of Tamiya panel liner. The TRX tires were not going to cut it,the wheels are from the 65'EL-Camino and the tires are from a AMT tires pack.I also added valve stems but they're so tiny you can't see them.?♂️ 6
Bainford Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Looking good. Nice and tidy. It's going to look great in that green. 2

DJMar Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 (edited) I'm totally digging this build! I like the small block swap as well. I used the same kits to build a model of a friend's 1965 Chevelle convertible as a gift. I sprayed it in Tahitian Turquoise that I ordered from a local paint supplier. I remember the Shawn Carpenter body being super, super nice, with minimal prep work needed. I really wish Revell would modify the Z-16 mold and reissue the kit to give us all a regular SS. It's quite possible to build if you're into kitbashing, cut the front clip from the 65'El-Camino and mate it with the 64 malibu body and for the correct tail panel the 65'chevelle AWB drag car has that part. It's something i may try and build next year. 2
Moparman18064 Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Great looking work to this point! I absolutely love the interior 2

Ho yes i would love the standard SS tail panel on the 65 i was thinking of getting the AMT AWB just to get the panel i am surprised Harts parts does not make one he does a great 69 cornet R/T panel i got one it worked beautiful. 2
