Hello all,  I have a real 62 GMC that I am planning to restore/ fix up.  It currently has a 455 Buick motor with a powerglide trans which I plan to change.  I wanted to create a scale model of what I want to do with my 1-1 truck.  I began with the AMT 60 Chevy and stretched the frame for an 8 ft bed.  I designed and 3d printed the entire bed, grill, hood vents, mirrors, tailgate, dash, wheels, battery, and back window surround.  The hood and most of the engine came from the Revell 65 Chevy stepside kit.  The tarp is from the firestone kit. Tires, carb, intake, transmission, shifter, and headers came from the parts box.  I mixed various craft paints to get the color I wanted.  I was going for a dark blood red but kept getting more of a brown color so I mixed in some blue and got this purple-ish color and decided it was a pretty cool color.  For the mesh screens on the hood vents, I used a paint filter and dry brushed silver over them then cut to fit. The engine is a Chevy 350 with turbo 350 trans which is what I am going with in my real truck.  I hope you like it and comments are welcome, thanks for looking!

Great looking truck and a great idea for your 1:1 build. The paint color will look good on this body style. Your attention to the details and appearances of the different components all look realistic for your future truck build. The wheels remind me of something GM offered as an option on 4X4 trucks and Blazers with the OEM 10:00 x 15 tires. Like how you did the hood vents.

Good job on my favorite pickup of all time-and the one I learned to drive in-tell me, would you consider creating and selling 8' beds?

Thank you David!  The wheels are Chevy rally wheels from I believe the late 70's through mid 80's.  The hood vents are what the 69 Camaro's had on some models.

Awesome! I saw a 3d conversion kit for a GMC and wondered how they looked.

How did you do the license plates?

Thank you Joe, the plates are made with an online plate maker then printed on card stock.  This conversion is not what is sold online, I made these parts myself and I used to sell them but had to shut down the business for personal reasons.  There might be some of my parts out there yet. They would be referred to as "Rookie Resin" parts.

Nice!

Now it just needs a companion... A model of your '62 in it's current form. ?

Thanks Chuck, I will consider that...I would have to create scale flaking clear coat but it is possible!,  Here is my 1-1 GMC.

The GMC conversion pieces look great, really like the GMC upper only moldings, correctly detailed dash, color and stance. Great work!

Thank you Tom!  I can always count on you to notice those small details!   I went with a Chevy hood instead of a correct GMC hood as I figured a resto mod would use an aftermarket hood and GMC's aren't as available as the Chevy's or even OEM sheet metal, Chevys are far more plentiful than GMC.

Very nice conversion!

A few years back my son bought a 62 GMC half ton long box the still had the original 305 V6 and 4spd trans. He then bought a 62 Chevy half ton as a parts truck only to discover how different the two trucks are. He ended up putting both trucks back on the road and then selling them to get a really nice first gen Cummins 12 valve.

As part of working on them we discovered the modern (5+ years ago) Dodge Durango V8 radiators are tall and narrow and fit perfectly in the trucks. The hose arrangement is perfect for a SBC. An aluminum radiator for $30 :) .
