Not sure if this WIP is NASCAR or diecast - we'll try it here.

Strangely, through Dale Earnhardt Sr. I find myself following a NASCAR driver after a 23 year hiatus.  Lately I have been collecting Hailie Deegan's trucks in 1/64.

Found some decals for a couple of trucks I couldn't buy, so I decided to do a couple repaints.

Started with these:

And primed...

And post paint.  Just awaiting arrival of the decals.

The yin and yang contrast of white and black.

I've been tempted more than once to blow apart a 1/64 diecast and to detail it. It disappoints me how the quality of NASCAR diecasts has fallen off in the past ten-twenty years.

Truth.  I've noticed the blister packs you buy off the pegs are missing all the window detail that is still found in the licensed boxed 1/64.  Maybe if I find some good decals in this process I'll detail a few more.   One of the decal sheets I ordered shows wheel and tire details - but oh so small.   We'll see how this goes!

First set of decals are in!!  We'll see how they fit and settle.  Also how opaque will the white be against the black paint?

Also, tested some Future floor polish where the decals say "1/64th Scale" with no reaction.  That's good.

Decal test went great.  The decals:

Are easy to work with, particularly when you cut them out close.

Are nice and thin.

Conform well with Micro-sol, but you don't get a lot of working time and you only get 1 or 2 moments to move 'em after Micro-sol and then they tear and melt.

Are very opaque - white decal looks great against black paint.

They are a little digitized under magnification being like dot matrix printed, but they look good from more than a few inches away.  This is 1/64 scale so even full car shots are effectively close ups.  They look pretty good to my eye in the shop.

We'll finish her up and get some future on it.

Also, the other decals arrived in the mail today.  It's nice you get two complete sets on each sheet, but if you don't mess up it kinda compels you to do a second truck ?.

Ok.  If dude is crazy enough to print tire and wheel markings in 1/64, I'm crazy enough to try them.  (These were only on the JHD0097 Monster sponsored sheet, but there are two sets per sheet, so...)

Did I put the wheel stickers the right way?   Not sure what I'm looking at - so small!
