This is my finished AMT Chevy 3100 pickup, i wanted to build a truck that is old and rusty on one hand but still "kind of" runs and work, so no flat tires or broken glass or missing parts, just a beaten old farm truck.

used several different methods to get that look, painting over rust colored primer and sanding, chipping, washes and pigments.

hard to see but i also tried to create an aged look for the seat.

Looks like a well-used old tool. The finish looks like the only time this got washed was when it rained. Really like the body finish. The seat is a very good representation of the heavy dark brown vinyl seat cover found on so many of the GM trucks from this era. The material held up well right up to the time that the vinyl started cracking with age and the cloth material became visible.

This is one of my favorite kits, built several versions, great canvas for doing weathering.  You did a knock-up job!  Love the seat, which is occasionally overlooked.  My only suggestion, wad up a tiny piece of red towel and stick where the gas cap is missing. ?

Fantastic Build! You still see trucks like that scattered in the back corners of farms, here in the Central Valley. Not Quite Dead yet, and still doing something useful.

(although now, the 50 year old trucks are from the 1970's)

Good Show.

Excellent weathering and beautiful overall build. Really like the one obligatory dent in the fender. This is the kind of truck a hot-rodder cruising the back roads looking for projects would jump on in a flash.

Years ago, we had a name for the red shop towel in the gas filler, it was called "A Wick".
