G'day all, l want to share a white letter tyre technique I was experimenting with on the weekend. I was looking at paint pens at Officeworx when I had a thought, this might work on my model tyres. It's an acrylic 1mm tip white paint pen produced by Uni Posca. For just under 5 Australian dollars I thought, why not. Back at the workbench I prepared the pen according to the instructions and used my magnifying visor. The paint flows at a manageable pace and lays down thick but drys flat. The tyre with the cragar wheel was my first attempt and went on a little thick. The other tyre I took a bit more care and it shows. These particular tyres have very bold lettering but I'm fairly confident it would work with smaller lettering too. Here are some pics of the results.

Cheers,

David. ??

Looks nice. One guy in my club, he brushes some acrylic on shiny cardboard and presses the tire letters onto that. So far everything he shows us looks mint.

Yes, I've heard of this technique. There is one guy on this forum (I can't remember who) that uses the flat tip of a pencil eraser coated with white acrylic and dabs it onto the raised letters.

This was an MPC "tip" from the 1970s when they started putting the Goodyear Polyglas tires with the exaggerated sidewall letters in the annual kits. 50 years later, I know why my attempts with non-shiny cardboard and Testors white enamel never turned out like I hoped, LOL.
