Well, yeah, I could go on about great solos and probably several riffs but if I just focus on a certain guy it would be Angus Young of AC/DC. Any time I hear his guitar playing I can't sit still.

I've always thought that the perfect Heart song could be written with the acoustic intro to 'Crazy on You', then the song 'Barracuda', closing it with the fade out of 'Straight On'..... All those rock, especially 'Barracuda's riff...........

I'll jump in...

Mark Knopfler! Dire Straits ... Sultan's of Swing!

.....(almost any of their songs)

Another...

Stevie Ray Vaughan...man that guy could pick!!

Hi!

Have to agree Mark Knopfler is one of the best, and having all his solo albums playing while I'm in my model room... There's this song: "Are we in trouble now", from the Golden Heart album, with Vince Gill doing back vocals. The last 90 secs. of the song, an "extro-solo" of sorts: priceless.

For all the rest, I've got a Mastercard!

Change Is Now (alternately called Universal Mind Decoder) , which is arguably the first Country Rock song (at least in popular culture). "Red" Rhodes on pedal steel ; Clarence White and Roger McGuinn interwoven solos

Let's start the " way back" machine, and let the music soothe our troubled minds.

Iron Butterfly : In a Gada Da Vida

Lead Zepplin : the guitar solo from The Song Remains The Same.

Pink Floyd : Umma Gumma, the entire album. And let us not forget  " One of these days"  from their Meddle album.

Yup,those are very good examples.Of course there are a lot of other great Black Sabbath songs i could mention, along with several great Kiss songs. And how about,Oops sorry Timmy, you beat me,yes,I forgot all about Iron Butterfly’s “IN A GADDA DA VIDA”?And yes,Angus Young definetly goes down as one of rocks greatest guitarist,as well as the late Eddie Van Halen.RIP.

There are just too many Black Sabbath  songs to list here.

But, if forced to choose just one...

Hole in the sky.

Carl, I like the way the two solos in this song sound so different from each other..... The first one is kinda lite and hopeful, then when the Doc gives him his meds the solo is more moody and dramatic!

He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves as a great guitarist.

Interviewer to Eric Clapton “How does it feel to be the greatest rock guitarist in the world?”

Clapton: ”I don’t know. Ask Prince.”

best,

M.

Prince just about buried everyone else there.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the Mark Knophler love but his greatest riff has to be Money for Nothing.

While not a Pantera fan generally. Walk has got to be in the discussion. You'll break your neck headbanging to that litte ditty.

Harvester of Sorrow is a person favorite of mine.

There's lots, these came to mind first.

Derek and the Dominos: Keep On Growing

Eric Clapton: The Core

Lynyrd Skynyrd: I Know A Little.                                                                                                                You Got That Right

Petty and the Heartbreakers: Mary Jane's Last Dance                                                                                              Runnin' Down A Dream ( THE perfect cruising tune.)  The live version of both.

I was going to mention Edgar Winter’s “Frankenstein”,love that song…But Edgar Winter didn’t actually play lead guitar on the song.He did play other instruments, but it was Rick Derringer.Ok,a couple of more I remembered,BOC’s,Don’t Feel the Reaper. And Metallica’s One”.Had to slip that one in.

And on the topic of ZZ Top, how has La Grange not been mentioned yet? That's basically a solo in three acts.
