Dragonhawk1066 Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 My recently finished AMT 1970 1/2 Chevy Camaro Z28. It's painted in Tamiya X-31 Titanium Gold that I thinned and sprayed through my airbrush. It's cleared with Createx UVLS 4053 High Gloss Clear. The interior is painted in a combination of Decoart Honey Brown, and Apple Barrel Khaki and Nutmeg Brown. I used Bare Metal Foil for the window trim, and added door locks, heater hoses, and ignition wires for extra details. I also scratch-built the exhaust system, and alternator and power steering brackets. Aftermarket products used include tires and carb from Fireball Modelworks, ignition coil from Morgan Automotive Detail, and air cleaner from Off The Sprue. Even though this kit does have it's downfalls, I feel that it gets an undeservedly overly bad rap. Yes there is some flash and the headlights need to be cleaned up, as well as a couple of minor fit issues at final assembly, but with some patience and some test fitting it can yield a very nice looking finished product. There is a lot of molded in detail, and the sub-assemblies build-up nicely. If anyone is interested, I have some in-progress videos that show how I tackle the issues I came across while building this kit on my Youtube channel, Stumpy Grump's Scale Speed Shop. As always, thanks for looking!! 22
TransAmMike Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Really nice Craig. I actually like the subtle gold on that?
espo Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Like the paint color and the white stripes look great. All the exterior trim is cleanly done as are the wheels. The interior color compliments the body color. Like the day - 2 engine treatment.
ksnow Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Very nice build. I am one that is struggling with a release of this kit. The headers on the Baldwin Motion big block just don't want to fit between the engine and the frame.
Matt T. Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 VERY nice! Looks great in that color and the backdrop diorama really makes it pop.
karbuildr Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Outstanding build, very nice color choice, excellent details all around.

I wish I could remember which kit the headers were in, but the memory isn't what it used to be. I do know I had to grind and file the frame to get them to fit. I actually used the small block from another of the Z28 kits when I built the B-M kit, so I don't know how those fit on that one.
Steve H Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Another very nice build Craig. In particular, I like the added detail under the hood. Just recently received an order from both MAD and fireball, beautiful products.
XYHARRY Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Very nice Camaro there Craig, the colour works well with the white stripes. I have the AMT Baldwin motion Camaro and look forward to the challenges everyone claims it has. Well done and thanks for sharing. Cheers, David. ??

I think some of the issues this kit has gets blown way out of proportion. I actually find it to be an enjoyable build, as I've built three and would happily build more. 1
Chris in Berwyn Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Beautiful!! And did you polish the Createx clear? I’m planning on using it for the first time and any tips would help!
Street Rod Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Very nicely done! Like the added details and the paint work is slick.

I usually don't go any lower than 4000 when wet sanding Createx. I have a how-to video on the 4050, which can pretty much be copied for the 4053, on my Youtube channel.
Speedpro Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Very nice! That gold works perfect with the interior color. I like the engine details. Your effort shows.
