iwantmodels Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Just got mine today from Spotlight Hobbies. Beautiful kit!! Always wanted one of these. I really do hope we see a 1964-1969 Buick Gran Sport (I know I'm different, but I love the 1965). A round of applause for Mr. Goldman & crew! 2
66c10 Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 would be nice to see a 65 chevelle ss to go with the 64 chevelle maubiu ss 1
bobss396 Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 All new tooling? I was thinking of getting a '64 to build the Bobby Allison #2 Chevelle.

But a 67 is the most beautiful A body ever made. 1

The model was based on the Z-16 option that was when Chevrolet introduced the 396 engines in the Chevelle line. There is a slight trim difference on the trunk lid that can be easily changed and switch engines for a small block if you want. The kit has been reissued a couple of times and I see them often at swap meets. I even have a couple squirreled away in mt stash. The kit is real well done and builds up into a great looking Chevelle.
Luc Janssens Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 I wonder if the Kats at amt/Round2 are looking into a 4dr version of this kit (by using some of the data of the wagon) to have a sibling for the SF market.

The standard SS trim is completely different vs. the Z16, including "Chevrolet" lettering and ribbed trim running above/below. Even the Z16 taillights are different, since they are from the lower line "base" Chevelles, not the Malibu. In addition to the tail panel, the side "Malibu SS" badges are in a different location on the Z16. So you have quite a task ahead of you to convert the Revell kit to a "standard" Super Sport. I've seen it done a handful of times, but it's not for the faint-hearted. Add to that the fact that the Revell kit has front/rear bumper guards. While not incorrect for a standard SS, many people would prefer to not have them on their model (the Lindberg 66 Chevelle also has that issue). Finally, Revell managed to botch the side window shape on their '65. Where the 1:1 upper molding/rain gutter should have a slight gentle arch, the Revell kit is arrow straight. You're right about the trunk tail panel. This would require someone to recreate the trim with some Plastruct or Evergreen styrene stripes. The tail lamps can be highlighted with a chrome marker to bring them up to the way they look on a normal SS. The other trim parts that you pointed out can also be changed, just depending on how much you want to create a body style that otherwise is not available. Would be doable with a little time and patience.
Motor City Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 The Chevelle SS 283 and 327 have a small engine displacement emblem on each front fender while the 396 has a large crossed-flag emblem there. Also, 'Malibu SS' is on the quarter panels on the regular SS while it's on the front fenders on the 396. I expect Round2 to clone an original '65 SS at some point.
Bob Ellis Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 I just bought the new Round 2 1964 Chevelle. Very nice and better than the original. Wow, about the wire wheel covers too. 1
bobss396 Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 I saw an open kit last week. I was hoping for new tooling. The body was quite nice. The Revell '65 chassis may be an improvement under the body.

The tooling is 100% brand new, the design is heavily based on the original Craftsman but improved and includes additional parts, separate hood etc. -Steve 2 2

Luc, you'll have to clue me in to what specific Sci-Fi movie or TV show your referring too. I'm guessing Repo Man. If we could get the rights maybe. We're not afraid to do four door cars for Sci-Fi. The Supernatural '67 Impala and the Green Hornet's Black Beauty are two recent examples. -Steve 3

A 4 door Chevelle or Malibu is perfect for building a weekend racer with lots of decals. https://carguychronicles.com/65-chevelle-flashback-stocker-street-east/ 1

I have an AMT Craftsman 65 Chevelle I plan to open up and detail out. I hate that it's molded in yellow, but I like the body better than the Revell kit.
Motor City Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Yes, that bright yellow was an odd choice for that. If it had been molded in Crocus Yellow, the pale yellow offered by Chevrolet, that would have been nice.

ChrisBcritter Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Should be interesting to see what the full detail version brings - the six-banger and SBC from the ElCamino/wagon plus their custom parts?

My vote would be for a 6 banger., but the SBC would probably move more Plastic.
