Hello folks!  I recently started working on the AMT 1960 Chevy Pickup (with the go-kart) but later, after I had started the project, I discovered the older version or the street machine version.  My question is, what are differences between the two kits?

The box art suggests that the street machine has a lowered stance and I was wondering if anyone else had built them and know if there are any differences between them.

Thanks everybody!

Custom grille, front bumper and hood inserts. Large wheels and tires. Lowered rear springs and front steering uprights, [IIRC].

Fuel injection and split header with dual exhaust.

Here's a link to the instruction sheet on the Drastic Plastic Fotki site so you can compare,,

Other than the wheels and tires and that hideous grill, the instructions look like the same kit I built. Recent builds of the go-cart kit has had reports of warpage. Just a heads up.

Also different intake and exhaust for the engine along with lowered suspension parts.

It is IMHO, a pretty lame set up, and all the more dated now. The truck would have looked better with a more Classic Hot Rod Look (Skirts, Multi Carbs, Different wheels) than the Billet, 1990's look it now has.

But, I'm glad to see it anyway, as I like the 1960 Chevy Truck.

Yea, the original box art was pretty  ,,, ugly, I guess.  And the custom parts were out of fashion even before the kit was issued,

It does look much better on the new box art though.

Except for the Ero looking composite headlights it looks good. Now the wheels are what really look dated.

The Wheels & Tires, the Matching Steering Wheel, the Hood "Eye" vent fillers and the Grille are all bad, really. The Only Custom part I really like is the Front Bumper with the built in driving lights.

As I said the 1960 Pick Up kit is great, but I remember piles of these at Big Lots and K-Mart the first time this custom came out.

So, while I applaud the Gorgeous Box Art, the kit contents are still not great.

I don't like it. I would want the stock version, which I have.

I agree on both counts.

As far as I can see, the only parts that would interest me would be the suspension and engine parts. But then again, I'd drop a small block in it and I can lower it myself.

Does look good in black though. I think it's what I'll paint mine when I do it.

I think the Stock-ish Paint job works against the Custom Parts on this build.

HPI Guy does his usual decent job, but this needed a Monochrome Paint Job to pull off the Custom parts. The Resto-Rod look on this kit just looks confused.

Thanks for sharing this!  I started my build just before I found out about this one coming out.

I've never had any desire to have this kit. But now I know about the custom bits, it may very well be on the want list now.

As far as the wheels go, one thing you can do is remove the out-of-style centers and replace them with something more to your liking.  The outer rims are often quite nice, and you already know they'll fit the tires that they go with.  I've done this with these pickup wheels, as well as those ugly three-slot ones in the Ranchero kit.

Cool. I’m going to post progress pictures in the WIP section here soon. I actually logged in here precisely to do exactly that when I saw this. ?
