I am back on this kit again trying to get the body lines on the side to look acceptable.  This is the 3rd time I have filled the area where the top and bottom body part glue together.  This time instead of Spru Goo I filled the line in with the Extreme Power (Medium) glue that I use.  I used the back of my #11 blade and a scribe to try and recreate the body line.  It's better than it was before.  You fellows think it looks exceptable?  I also have an Ardun Flathead V8 from Texas 3D Customs that I'd like to drop in the business end.  The wheels & tires are from Jay's Resin Wheels 1948 on ebay.

Other than very little clean up on the door body line it looks great. That Arden has me thinking I should get one as well for some future build yet to be determined.

Thanks David.  Yeah, that flatty is pretty kewl.

It’s not bad, but since you asked…that body line should be a little more rounded into a vee shape. Not squared off like the vertical door seam.

I hear ya Greg.  At this point I'm just trying to get a straight line and make it look not so noticeable.

Yeah, that body line looks like a tough one, no doubt. Any chance you've tried a small triangle file on it?

Also, I haven't built one of AMT's '36 Fords in forever. Looking at yours makes me want to pick up that kit again.

It's sure giving me some grief DJ.  I did try some small files the first time around with no success.

Isn't modeling fun? LOL. It's the unavoidable situation. Struggle and frustration end up to hopefully be joy and sense of accomplishment. And you're just the man for the job. Good luck Bro.

Trying to correct some of a kit's shortcomings can be a real challenge! Stick with it, be successful, and feel the satisfaction when you've completed it to your satisfaction. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I'm sure it will be BITCHEN!...

Glad to see you back on the bench, killer engine you have for you build!

Thanks Carl.  I've also got an old Revell 41 Willy's Gasser I'm playing around with on the side.  A ton of flash and parting lines and bad fitting parts.  Don't we love it.

Well...I've spent the better part of the morning just cleaning flash and parting lines the best I could do.  This is a 1991 release and I've gotta tell ya, these tools are past wore out.  This is without a doubt the worst kit I've ever worked on.  I thought the Revell 1941 Willy's (1963 release) kit was bad, this one is a little worse.  I've decided to go with the stock grille.  Both the stock and custom grilles do not look or fit very good but the stock one is going to need less work.  I'm starting to loose steam on this one.

Just did a trial fit of the Ardun Flathead V8 I got from Texas 3D Custom.  Man....this engine is a monster.  Not sure if I can even get the headers on.  That is as low as it will go without cutting into the body.

That engine looks INSANE in there! Talk about 10 lbs of feed in a 5lb sack...

Maybe there's a reason I haven't built one of these kits in forever. I don't remember them being that bad, but then again, my standards were different 30+ years ago.

Looks like it is time to drag out the acetylene cutting torch. Begs to question the scale of this engine, is it by chance 1/24; also, some of these older AMT kits were a frog's hair smaller than 1/25. Another question about this kit, is your interior door panel thicker on the passenger side than the driver's side. The kit I have is the checkerboard cover, Racing Champions 2002 issue and the passenger door is at least twice as thick as the other side.  Looking forward to updates.

I agree with everyone on the scale of the engine. While it has to be one of the best looking Ardens by far, it does look almost like it is from a far larger scale kit. I was going to mention a problem I had on this model the last time I built one. The grill surround, whether you're doing the stock or custom, is hard to line up. The mounting point on the fenders isn't really accurate.  I used the body with the hood mounted to get the right angle of the grill surround. When you get to that part of the build you might want to try that if it isn't lining up like it should for you.

Thanks.  Yeah, there seems to be a lot of issues with this kit.  I'm trying to get this one built but it's fighting me the whole way so far.

Thanks man.  I think it could be the kit is a little on the small side and the engine is a little on the big side.  Maybe I can fit this engine in my 41 Willy's???  Don't know about the doors, they seem to be the same.  On the hunt for another engine.

50 Ford truck has a good looking engine. Chech it out online.

I hear ya Carl.  I'm going to take a look at kit engine and I have some other 3D printed engines as well as a bunch of flatheads bagged up.

Well...looks like this Ardun Flathead V8 is more suited for the 41 Willy's.  I'm on the hunt for a replacement for the 36.

Replicas and Miniatures (Norm Veber) has excellent Ardun heads that fit on most any 1/25th scale flathead. The kit has pulleys, belt material- everything you need. However, the hood sides will need to be bulged or omitted for them to fit.
