I bought a couple of Milsbo glass door cabinets from IKEA and assembled them today. I am looking for a company that sells additional shelves for it along with the mounting brackets. (IKEA does not sell additional shelves for some reason.) Some time ago, I believe I saw a post from someone on this forum that has the same shelf units and he bought additional shelves for it from ETSY?? Does anyone know? Also I think I read somewhere on here that maybe there are lighting kits available for the Milsbo units but cannot get them from IKEA? Any help is appreciated!

if there a fisn tank maker near you they could be a good starting point. you would need fishtank glass anyway as its toughened (water is heavy) and they may have tank fittings that would work too

If you can find a custom glass shop near you, they should be able to make whatever you need. 1/4 inch plate glass with ground edges would be fine, although tempered would be better (more money). Be prepared, glass is expensive!

Your photos don't show what kind of shelf supports your cabinet uses, but if they are the pins that fit in holes in the cabinet sides, those are available at home center/ hardware stores, and certainly online. There are two sizes, 1/4 inch and 5 mm. I bet IKEA uses 5 mm, but definitely check first.

Hope that helps.

I would try a glass shop first.  These shelves are on the small side compared to the work they do most of the time, they may have a damaged larger piece of glass that can be cut into pieces to make your shelves.  I did that years ago for a much larger cabinet; I knew a retired glazier.  He still had some big storefront windows laying around his shop, and cut a couple of them and ground the edges to make my shelves.

IF you do get regular plate glass shelves, put them on the lower levels of your cabinets and install the shelves that came with them in the upper levels.  And put the heavier items like diecasts on the original shelves.

And, by the way, those cabinets look extremely nice.  If I needed another cabinet, I'd be looking for one of those.

Thanks for the tips guys! Etsy does sell the shelf supports for these cabinets and they also sell different variations of plexiglass(?) shelves with slots/openings in them for planters (to allow airflow). Looks like I may have to have some glass cut though.
They are nice shelves Mark-well made and glass on all four sides. If you get one, be sure to follow the excellent assembly instructions carefully so you don’t break the glass. I didn’t have any trouble.

There's no IKEA in my area; as I understand the nearest one is a couple hundred miles away in Pittsburgh.  Years ago, I bought a curio cabinet figuring that, when I owned a house, I'd eventually use it as a curio cabinet.  It's still in the spare room, along with the 7' long store cabinet that I had the glass cut for.

Many years ago, at someone else's house I spotted a Timex watch store display case with a few model cars in it, and that stuck with me.  Ever since then, I swore I was going to find one of those for myself.  A few years ago I picked up a couple of them, and found a third one last summer.  No two of them are alike, but that's what makes those interesting.  They're plastic, as long as they aren't cracked or deeply scratched they clean up pretty nicely with some Novus plastic polish.

I've also got a display case that my dad made for me when I was about ten.  He passed away a year or so later, as I remember that might have been the last project like that, that he did.

Don't bother with Plexiglas or acrylic shelves; they'll sag.  Glass ones can be had for about the same cost, maybe a bit more.  You'll only need to spend the money once, so may as well get glass.

Not the best pictures, but I have the Ikea Fabrikor cases. I bought several acrylic risers that allow me to display my large-scale builds at different levels.

I too bought an IKEA cabinet and soon discovered I needed additional shelves. I had my local Hobby Lobby cut their scrap plexiglass into 30x13 sheets for $15 each. I used 5 glass bottles from HL to support the shelf, 1 in the center to support the sag. You could use whatever size supports you need for the required height.

Hey Safire6,

I just saw your post—I'm from Hungary, and one of my friends has the same cabinet as yours. He found a local company that was able to cut some extra glass shelves for him.

I know we use different measurement systems, but since the sizes are in millimeters, you should be able to easily convert them to your preferred unit.

The new glass is a slightly tighter fit, but it’s perfect—it doesn’t wobble like the original one.

Thanks for the dimensions Kristof! A couple days ago I had some leftover .090" (2.5mm) thick plexiglass that I cut the same size as the glass panels in the Milsbo cabinet. (And very close to your dimensions.)  I wanted to see how much the plexiglass would bow in the middle when supporting just itself. It bowed quite a lot. I like shoopdogs idea to support the plexiglass with glass bottles. At this point in time I don't need the extra shelves but I will soon as I complete more builds. When that time arrives, I'll decide to have some glass cut or use plexiglass.

Do yourself a favor and get glass cut. That way you will not have to worry about tire melt into the shelves. Yes it is possible when ypu get random clear sheet goods.

I did not know that fordpickup. So tire melt would not happen if the tires are resting on glass?

I had a couple of older built ups sitting on top of a display case for models and the tires started to stick to the top of the clear plastic. I feel it is better to ne safe than sorry.

I just picked up one of these cases. They go together very easily. I am going to get some more shelves made for it. I can make the support brackets myself. One thing I don’t like about it is the clear glass on the backside, allowing a nice view of the wall behind. My other display case has a mirrored back. I may get some mirror panels for the back too.

So I ordered two tempered glass shelves from a local glass shop for $60 each. All four edges will be polished. I got them cut shorter to avoid the beveled corners and will make my own corner brackets to support them. I am debating whether to order some mirror panels to replace the two back panels, or just spray paint the backside of the existing glass black. They want $78 each for the mirror panels. Thoughts on the paint idea anyone? Thanks.

Edit: I guess I have nothing to lose by trying it…if it looks like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH I’ll order the mirrors.🧐

So I shot some black primer on the backside of the rear walls and covered it with some self adhesive shelf liner to give it a bit of protection. It looks good enough to me. I made some shelf brackets from a piece of 1x1 square tube and added some 1/16” foam gasket for the two new shelves to sit on. It should take me a while to fill this one up now.🙂
