Thanks Ken. I have used these before and they look good, though the font is a little off. No biggie really, though I would like to be able to get rid of the Bluenose (the sailing schooner in the center of the NS plate, for those not from the area) for vintage plates. I used one on a mid-70s period  build, but when I look at it, I find it dates the car incorrectly. It doesn't help that I made it a personalised plate, which is incorrect for period anyway. I haven't tried to download and modify the image, but I might give that a go sometime. They benefit from adding registration stickers, which I added by colouring in the space with a marker and scribbling some illegible characters with a very fine (0.05) black marker.

Its a great resource, but it does have gaps in years depending on the state. If you don't care what state you can check another state for the year you want.

I've been using this for many years and have hundreds of vanity plates saved in my "Pictures" file. To do this, generate your desired license plate, right click on the plate you've just created and open the image in a new tab, right click on that image and left click "Save Image As", add your image title and save it to your pictures file.

Nice option, but it doesn't look like it will help me with something that I'm going to need in the coming months.

Any suggestions?

By the way, my printer is a POS, so printing it myself is probably not an option.

You can do it on the site I posted Steven. But the “Minnesota” is all caps even though they show both versions as options. This is just a quick draft print on plain paper.

I took a straight-on photo of my neighbor's 1:1 plate, cropped it and printed it 1/2"x1/4". Added a PE frame and it looks pretty decent in 1/25.

I have used the acme version for years. I vanity plate nearly all of my builds. I match the appropriate year and then often find a state with matching or complimentary colors for the paint scheme.

My old Canon inkjet printer puts out fairly crisp images, I used the above-mentioned PlatesMania site to generate and print out the personalized Utah plate for my "Backbug" entry in the GSL 2019 contest's VW 1300 Common Kit Class. (the 1659 is what I calculated the new engine cc figure would be for a 5-cylinder)

But trained graphic artist that I am, I can generate plates from manipulated photos, and one of these days after I get my full retirement career act together, I could generate custom plate printouts for a modest fee … but that's still a future thing when the actual available time arises. Example here, couldn't resist the challenge.

I didn't know it was still around. I thought it was gone. Years ago I used to have it bookmarked and the last time I tried it I think I got a 404 on it. Anyway, you can't make plates that are newer than 1998. I use this now.

Yes, but you can save the image and reduce it to whatever scale you want.

Just like Rodent said. Just take a screen grab of it and save it.

It's still there, but they had to drop California, Texas and Florida. I found an earlier version of the site on archive.org that still had the CA blanks, but the personalization no longer works.

The other states are OK, so if you want to do this car, you're set:
